As a writer, I find it a REGRESSION when authors treat their work this way! You chose to publish it, you chose to make it available to the fandom, and even if it’s free, it’s still a form of product, and receiving criticism or praise is part of the process

@mspolapotter PS: Regarding Manacled specifically, yes, the author removed it, but that’s a separate discussion. Plus, a reader could have just downloaded it to read later—something AO3 allow, because, surprise, the platform has a very obvious “download” button at the top of the page.
