@theswansjr It has value, of course, but less than those same attributes with privacy. The fact that I can see your wallet and your entire financial history is a no - no for many.
Transparency is a bug.
English

To believe that Bitcoin has no intrinsic value means:
1. Believing that having a decentralized, global payment and settlement network outside the conventional financial system has no value.
2. Believing that having a way to protect your purchasing power from inflation has no value.
3. Believing that being able to store your wealth without counterparty risk has no value.
4. Believing that the ability to send $5 or $50 million anywhere, anytime, with minimal fees has no value.
Yet, people say bitcoin has no utility or value.
English

Let’s run the math of that to the extremes.
Let’s suppose it was exploited and made infinite zec (my thesis is that there’s no exploit, but let’s play on that).
Ironwood and the turnstile would limit the amount of that exploit to 5M Zecs in Orchard. And the freeze of funds (allowing just to leave from Orchard) would display those 5M clearly concentrated to the next pool. If that 5M (now identified concentrated holder exist), the ones that would suffer would be those INSIDE the orchard right now, but the existence of such a big concentrated holder would destroy the value of the chain, just because of the concentration (think of a 5x Satoshi or Saylor).
If you believe that a fixed 21M supply private and now more robust version of bitcoin is valuable, and you’re in the transparent pool, and there’s no concentrated holder, the value of Zcash is bigger than Bitcoin, just vecause of its evident private properties, its supply soundness and quantum ready.
Just allocate your bets accordingly. If there was exploit: market cap 0.
if there weren’t (and all seems that it wasnt), 10 T.

*Laughs in libertarian, privacy advocate, and long time $ZEC holder*
I’ve spent years studying, defending, and investing in ZEC because I genuinely believe privacy matters and because I appreciated the technology and monetary model behind it.
The issue many maxis are missing is that Ironwood doesn’t make potential counterfeit claims disappear. It simply accelerates reconciliation.
If the Orchard bug was exploited, someone ultimately absorbs that discrepancy. The common response is that dormant balances or lost funds will cover the gap.
Maybe.
But the entire reason we’re having this discussion is that there is no way to prove that inside a shielded environment.
I still appreciate the technology.
I still appreciate the mission.
But pretending this hasn’t damaged one of the core assumptions behind the investment thesis, at least in the short term, isn’t analysis.

lmao you never understood Zcash.

@CryptoHe4dlines @will__mcevoy A stable coin that gets diluted every crisis? That one? We need a private fixed supply asset where to store value privately.
English

Zcash encrypts the transfer of $ZEC. ZEC is not money and not a stablecoin – it’s a crypto-asset. Just like Bitcoin: it’s not money, it’s an asset. The world doesn’t need 2016 technology to understand that what’s actually required is private transfer of stablecoins. What’s needed is a “private Ethereum” – and that is definitely not Zcash. It never will be.

This is why Geeks are moving away from BTC.
It has lost his tech focused people. BTC was a freedom project from geeks to the people. Now it's become a dead asset manipulated by Saylor .
That's why Zcash will replace BTC. Because it's the true freedom money.
mert@mert
I think the biggest downside of saylor is not him selling or any ponzi mechanic it's the fact that he's now 90% of all discourse around BTC, which crowds out the much more fun discourse on adoption, technology, and philosophy of the project

@GoodTexture A random alone guy finding an eliptic curve scalar multiplication mistake in the code, and being able to code that alone without Opus 4.8 with long audit permissions from Anthropic and without guidance is virtually imposible.
English

@ThorTorrens That's always the case. Once you understand the value proposition and the leap ahead from bitcoin, it's pretty obvious. But it takes a bit of study and, amongst all highlights readers, there are always the geeks and libertarians that will be fascinated by the tech.
English

@ztipme Thought about this yesterday. FUD thrives on superficial takes. But for every person echo-chambering panic, there's a smart, analytical optimist who digs into the data and recognizes the true value proposition

On one side we have Daira-Emma Hopwood, Zooko, Mathew Green, Balaji, Naval, Winklevoss.
On the other side we have Scott Melker.
We are pushing the limits of crypto to give you freedom.
He just feel threatened by the best cypherpunk tech and team.
The Wolf Of All Streets@scottmelker
The "Zcash is private Bitcoin" narrative makes me want to puke. Stop the nonsense.

@GoodTexture Controversy brings attention.
Attention brings study.
Study brings understanding.
Understanding brings believers.

the stage is now set for the most hated rally in crypto history
"how can a broken-hacked coin with unlimited supply go up!?!?"
cuffernicus@cuffyCapital
The ZEC rally will be the most hated rally
English

@therollupco @mert zcash is a cause. We will win. Causes don’t die. They just become bigger.
Zcash will replace bitcoin.
