General practice is vital to a healthy NHS. Yet, it is on the verge of total collapse. Our new report shows why GPs – and the vital role they play in our health system – must be valued. Read more 👉bma.org.uk/valueofagp #endGPunemployment

Great chart below/right from @TheIFS about ridiculous tax cliff at £100k cuasing *obscene* marginal tax rates. But you can draw a very similar chart (left) for higher earning doctors affected by the stupid & ill-conceived #taper which is **really damaging** waiting list recovery @wesstreeting @RachelReevesMP Doctors want to help with waiting lists, but they cannot #PayToWork RT if you want government to finally #ScrapTheTaper

Economists: people don't understand marginal tax. If your tax rate increases above £100,000, you don't suddenly lose money when you earn £100,001 UK tax system: hold my beer

Example 101 of NHS Referral forms being a way of restricting care to patients. Would a consultant to consultant referral be blocked for this? Why are GP referrals being blocked? (We don't use referral forms unless helpful ala collective action)

Our recent survey revealed 1 in 5 GPs in England plan to change their career because they can’t find work - write to your MP and urge them to support changes that will allow more GPs to work in the NHS. ✍️Write to your MP now by using our tool activism.bma.org.uk/page/166441/ac…

'If the ‘powers’ do not recognise the effectiveness of partnership model in general practice, I worry that may well backfire.' Dr Kamal Sidhu scrutinises the details of the new GP contract and asks just how helpful it will actually be for general practice buff.ly/SeyMnZb

If grassroots GPs are telling @doctor_katie "this is going to break us", the time for collective action in general practice is surely NOW. Make sure you are involved to protect your practice, your staff and your patients. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/…

Fascinating. NHSE have assessed worst case scenario of GP Collective Action. Stopping non-contractual work could cost the NHS £570m in the first 4 months. Extrapolated - @NHSEngland have just admitted General Practice is doing £1.7billion of non-contractual work every year

NHS Digital data underestimates hours GPs work A ‘session’ measured as 4hrs 10mins suggests a GP doing 6 = 25hrs/wk In reality much longer See prucomm.ac.uk/assets/uploads… Also bjgp.org/content/early/…
Dr Steve Taylor@DrSteveTaylor

Extremely poor research being used today to knock GPs using recorded data in @NHSDigital for working hours This is primarily based on sessions worked but a session is counted as 4hrs 10mins 6 sessions then 25hrs But GPs are working 5-6hrs per session prucomm.ac.uk/assets/uploads…

Interesting developments @RCPhysicians A wake up call? And may be time for introspection @rcgp @RCoANews ‘Things are very bleak’ within General Practice & sadly a lot of GPs are unemployed. A very strange paradox indeed. #TeamGP @BMA_GP @BAPIOPC @BAPIOUK @BMAGPtrainees

BREAKING/ This is a scandalous moment in UK medicine. Over 80 Fellows of @RCPhysicians have just declared their lack of confidence in the College. Why? Because they believe its stance on physician associates (PAs) is recklessly failing patients. Pls read - this matters. 🧵
