Under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the LG administration already possesses the authority to act decisively against narcotics networks and NDPS-related crimes. The real issue before J&K today is the growing drug abuse crisis affecting thousands of families and pushing sections of youth toward addiction and crime. Any genuine and transparent crackdown on narcotics will naturally expose the networks, facilitators, and beneficiaries who may have operated under political protection for years. That is precisely why efforts to dilute or divert the discussion must be viewed critically. If investigations remain impartial and accountability-driven, even the so-called “big fish” involved in the narcotics trade can be brought under the ambit of law during this mission.
