Cardiac surgeries were cancelled five to six days every month, and patients, including small children, were moved to waiting lists extending up to 15 months, said Dr Hote, who joined AIIMS as a student in 1999.
“About five percent of patients on the waiting list died before their surgery date… including small children. It was not just frustrating. It was causing me guilt,” Dr Hote told ThePrint.
