It's mental that people are heavily critiquing The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. It's a kids film, I took my 5yo son to see it today and he LOVED it. It's like they wanted shocking drama, gut wrenching monologues, life lessons, deep metaphors. It's a slightly chubby Italian plumber and his brother in their overalls, on an adventure with a screaming mushroom. That's literally all that matters. It was never intended to be Shawshank Redemption or Ben Hur, was it? I thought it was great, loads of fan service, and introduced a new generation to the amazing Fox McCloud/Star Fox 💙

Just a reminder: Two of the best animated films of this decade, The Mitchells vs. the Machines and Nimona, both include LGBTQ representation done naturally and effectively, with Katie Mitchell from The Mitchells being canonically queer and Nimona centering a same-sex relationship between Ballister and Ambrosius, and both films were critically acclaimed, widely loved by critics and audiences, and received major awards recognition because they’re genuinely strong, creative, and emotionally resonant stories. Undoubtedly better storytelling than these two Mario movies Who could’ve thought that you can include representation in such a sincere and honest way when the writing actually cares about its characters in an animated film?
