Some thoughts/notes from the 2026 NPC.
• Luke Paul was as advertised; best, most complete player in the building.
• Yahya Basaran is unbelievably intriguing: there’s rawness but he’s a skilled 7-footer with improving touch. Has been working out with Dave Andersen over the last 12 months.
• COE coaches came away very impressed with the 2010-born cohort.
• It’s a talented crop for Greg Vanderjagt to select from, ahead of the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup this June/July.
• Can’t say enough about the operation at the COE, led by Robbie McKinlay and Braden Cotter. High-level coaching and guidance out of the AIS right now.
• A handful of NBA scouts attended the camp, as did @Liam_Santa.
• Surprisingly - and disappointingly - no NBL teams sent representatives; this event should be a lock on the Australian basketball calendar.

I was in attendance for all four days of the 2026 National Performance Camp in Canberra, where Australia’s best 2009/2010 born prospects were on show.
New story for @ESPNAusNZ, on the athletes that stood out.

This makes so much sense, so why do so many coaches hold on to old orthodoxy and not learn from the teachings of progressive coaches such as Chris Oliver?

Some drills don’t help anyone… so why are we still running them?

@DavidPocock @DamianArsenis It’s not just resource companies doing this.
Implement a minimum corporate tax rate.
English

Why on earth do successive 🇦🇺 govts keep allowing giant multinational companies to reap super profits from the sale of our resources without paying tax?? 🤯
This $$ should be supporting Australians in health, housing, education etc.

@DamianArsenis Considering that 7 of the 12 were bottom age or younger and 2 of the other key ‘outs’ Somfai and Hall are also bottom age, the future does indeed look bright

What a stunning achievement from the Australian Gems!🥈🇦🇺🏀
Renae Garlepp was a deserving coach of the tournament, while Bonnie Deas was named to the All-Star Five!
The future of Australian basketball is very bright.

The Pick and Roll 🇦🇺🏀@PickandRollAU
The Australian Gems won silver at the Under 19 World Cup! Not the result they wanted in the last game, but it was their only loss for the tournament. So excited for what the future holds for these girls, so proud of them 💎🇦🇺🏀 #AussieHoops #FIBAU19

@DamianArsenis Jeez that’s poor for it to occur at this stage of procedures

Mali were pooled with Australia.
As per rules, each team in the group will be credited with a 20-0 win.
Damian Arsenis@DamianArsenis
On the eve of the FIBA U19 Women's World Cup African champions, Mali have had their visas refused by Czechia, forcing them to withdraw from the event.

@DamianArsenis @mattlogue7 @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 I think that there are about 70 or so in NSW, not sure of the exact number.
English

@Rumin_ate @mattlogue7 @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 There are around 160 associations across Victoria, and 54 are playing in the VJBL.
English

SPECIAL INVESTIGATION:
Basketball is booming in NSW right now, but the sport is struggling to keep up with the growing need for facilities and thousands of kids are being turned away across the state. NSW hoops deserves better.

@DamianArsenis @mattlogue7 @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 How many associations are there in Melbourne? There are just 17 in Sydney.
English

@Rumin_ate @mattlogue7 @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 Ridiculous! BNSW needs to be proactively working with Associations and Schools to get more venues.
English

@DamianArsenis @mattlogue7 @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 They are but government have been a roadblock
English

@mattlogue7 @DamianArsenis @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 We are paying extortionate fees here. The going rate is climbing to over $100 per court per hour.
English

@mattlogue7 @DamianArsenis @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 I don’t dispute that there is a shortage in Vic but the situation is not the same as NSW
-we don’t have a state basketball centre and won’t for years
English

@mattlogue7 @DamianArsenis @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 There are massively more players in Vic that BNSW and it is all because of the lack of facilities.
English

@mattlogue7 @DamianArsenis @timmorrissey @balymt @BasketballNSW @codesportsau @andrewbogut @SydneyKings @NBL @MickRandallHS @telegraph_sport @jessrobinson_96 There are just 5 associations that I can think of in Sydney with a home stadium of 6 courts & none with more. Most have 4 or even less.
