For the first time since 1970, we ended the month of May with just 8 homicides, the first single-digit May homicide total recorded in more than five decades. While one life lost is still one too many, this milestone reflects the progress Baltimore is making and the lives being saved across our city. Let me reiterate, this type of enforcement is not welcome in Baltimore. The presence of ICE has not made our city any safer, and in fact has led to greater fear and anxiety, especially for our immigrant neighbors. When your opponents attack each other, get out of their way and let them! When former Trump aide Caroline Sunshine laid into Trump donor Hal Lambert about Trump’s disastrous Iran war, I crossed my arms and enjoyed the show. @ananavarrofl tried to keep a stunned @lzgranderson quiet to let them go at it. I wish I had popcorn. And, Caroline wasn’t wrong. Bravo! They fight, we win.

When members of the press don't do basic research and use the arrest of one Black man to drag another through the mud, it seems to me like this is an intentional attack on our community and Black-led nonviolence work in Baltimore and across the country.

Despite historic progress, we continue to lose far too many residents to gun violence here in Baltimore and across the country. These are families that will never again be whole, young people who will never get the chance to grow into their best selves, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, friends and family. This National Gun Violence Awareness Day we stand together against violence in our communities and recommit ourselves to the work of advancing public safety across our neighborhoods.

It is shameful that the Trump Administration is—yet again—attempting to strip health care coverage for millions of working people, including many here in Baltimore. Quality health care should be a basic right for every citizen, and we will continue to fight against any attempt to slash lifesaving benefits under the ACA.

Black Fathers despite the rumors are more involved with their kids than their counterparts. Black Baltimore fathers have another level of fatherhood swag and this event is a place for us to display that and fellowship with each other.

At Baer, students celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by researching a country of their choice, creating informational posters, and in some cases wearing traditional clothing representing the country they studied. The activity gave students an opportunity to learn more about different cultures, histories, and traditions from across Asia and the Pacific Islands.

Since I took office in 2020, we have made record investments into Baltimore City Public Schools, and we aren’t stopping.    This FY27 Budget continues our commitment to @BaltCitySchools under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future because every student deserves the support and resources that they need to reach their full potential.

For years, too many of our recreation facilities and pools were disinvested in. Now, we’ve changed that. And with this budget we are going to continue to make historic investments into modernizing facilities across Baltimore.
