The expiration of ACA subsidy enhancements is already taking a toll on primary care. With subsidy credits ending, physicians are seeing drops in patient volume and revenue as more patients lose affordable coverage or delay care. The ripple effect: fewer visits, more untreated conditions, and growing strain on already stretched primary care practices. mdsc.pe/4mbth9G

Memory loss and aging go hand-in-hand for most of us, but scientists are getting closer to understanding why. A new study, conducted by researchers at the Arc Institute in Palo Alto, California, and published in Nature, found that a prime suspect may be living in our gut. mdsc.pe/48bzPPK

The concept of “prediabetes” may be on its way out. Some experts are proposing a shift to staging type 2 diabetes instead, arguing that the current label can be misleading and may delay more proactive treatment. A stage-based approach could better reflect disease progression and encourage earlier intervention. mdsc.pe/3O4aXmi

A new review highlights the rapidly expanding role of therapies that stimulate or modulate vagus nerve activity, with potential applications across a wide range of conditions. These include inflammatory diseases, neurologic disorders, and mental health conditions, reflecting growing interest in “bioelectronic medicine.” As devices become more advanced and less invasive, the vagus nerve is emerging as a key target for treating disease by influencing the body’s own neural and immune pathways. mdsc.pe/4tjrCkB

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is moving toward allowing compounding pharmacies to produce more than a dozen injectable peptides that were banned because of potentially significant safety risks, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, citing a senior administration ‌official. The FDA in 2023 removed 14 peptides from a list of products that ‌it allows compounding pharmacies to produce. The compounded peptides were commonly ‌used in wellness, integrative ‌medicine, and sports medicine. The agency had said the move was based on significant safety risks, including risks related ‌to immunogenicity, toxicity , and impurity of the peptides. Tap the link to read more: mdsc.pe/41bfCFW

Oral GLP-1 receptor agonists are generating a great deal of excitement as a potential inflection point in diabetes and obesity care. Amid the enthusiasm, however, a quieter and clinically important issue is emerging for primary care clinicians: how oral GLP-1s interact with the realities of polypharmacy and medication timing in everyday practice. Unlike injectable GLP-1s, oral formulations depend on precise dosing conditions and alter gastric physiology, raising questions about drug-drug interactions, inconsistent exposure, and silent erosion of therapeutic benefit in real-world use. mdsc.pe/4s9ioq8

Arthritis affects 1 in 4 adults, yet 73% of healthcare clinicians underestimate the true scale of the disease and its impact on daily activity. Even more surprising: nearly 60% of clinicians don't know the gold-standard physical activity guidelines for arthritis, and 61% underestimate how much movement actually reduces pain. Our research is now featured on the CDC website: mdsc.pe/4m7IWGR
