Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, delivered his plenary address today at Bharat Mandapam as part of the Plenary Session with Presentations.
He spoke about how COVID-19 became a defining moment for science and public health, demonstrating India’s capability to rapidly build manufacturing platforms, strengthen genomic surveillance, and coordinate efforts across ministries and institutions.
Drawing on examples from vaccines, diagnostics, monoclonal antibodies, and the One Health Consortium, he highlighted how these coordinated systems now offer a strong foundation for future medical countermeasures. He also underlined the importance of national data resources, including the Indian Biological Data Centre, and the progress being made in areas such as Nipah monoclonal antibodies and multivalent vaccine platforms.
Dr. Gokhale noted that the coming decade will be shaped by the convergence of biological, artificial, and natural intelligence accelerating innovation across biomanufacturing, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental systems. His address reinforced the importance of sustained, integrated efforts to strengthen India’s One Health preparedness.
