When Labour came to power July 2024 it inherited a recent OBR forecast of a £77bn deficit for 2025/26. 🚨Labour again🚨 Former Dudley Labour councillor Adrian Hughes has been sentenced to 32 months in prison after admitting child sex offences. Between May and June 2025, Hughes believed he was communicating online with two girls aged 12 and 13. In reality, he was interacting with undercover officers. He pleaded guilty to attempting sexual communication with a child and attempting sexual activity with a child under 13, as well as offences involving a child aged 13 to 15. Hughes had previously served on the Children’s Services Select Committee, the Children and Young People’s Scrutiny Committee, and the Children’s Corporate Parenting Board. He was suspended from the Labour Party in October 2023 following a complaint about his behaviour. During sentencing, the court heard mitigation including personal background issues and substance misuse. However, the judge also noted aggravating factors, including attempts to delete evidence from his phone. Hughes was made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
