Macron now supports a European version of section 301. Mertz is starting to worry about China's undervalued currency and looks likely to support the Commission's proposal on safeguards. Mr. Balding is the one living in the past ... 1/2
Blume Industries CEO Balding 大老板@BaldingsWorld

The Europeans do European stuff for a decade under Trump I, Biden, and Trump II and the argument is "I blame Trump". Maybe just maybe Europe is just a political mess <facepalm.gif>

"Then White House started reaching out to Anthropic to speak with Dario Amodei, who was at a wellness retreat." Ahahahahahahahah bros going on wellness retreats on the dawn of the IPO I'm crying
Sophia Cai@SophiaCai99

NEW: Inside the 24-hrs before WH slapped export controls on Anthropic - Last Thursday, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raised concerns about Fable jailbreak to Trump admin - Friday AM, Sean Cairncross, Bessent, Susie etc. held WH call to discuss - Then White House started reaching out to Anthropic to speak with Dario Amodei, who was at a wellness retreat. - When Amodei was finally available past 1pm, he had three tense phone calls with a combo of ppl including Cairncross, Bessent, Lutnick, Kessler, Will Scharf, Richard Walters, and Walker Barrett. -Amodei tried to clear up what he assumed was a misunderstanding. He defended the guardrails and distinguished between universal and non-universal jailbreak - Cairncross and Bessent were unmoved and asked Amodei to take down Fable and work with the admin to fix the vulnerabilities. (A WH official said Amazon’s findings were run past the NSA and they felt they had “proof.”) - Amodei asked for more time and info, but he made no commitments to pull the model - Bessent told Amodei directly at one point that he was making a “bad decision” - By Friday evening, the Trump admin imposed its export controls. - “Export controls were a last resort after begging them for hours to work with us,” senior WH official said. Speaking as a former pool operator. Painting the bottom of a shallow pool exposed to direct sunlight that's surrounded by trees dark blue simply creates the perfect conditions for algae to bloom lmao. This is the perfect exemplar for Trumps presidency.

He'll do more of what he's already done, corrupting our political system by spending grotesque sums of money and wielding far more influence over electoral outcomes than any individual should have.

Liberals are worried that Musk might use his “extreme concentration of wealth” to do what exactly? Explore space? Electrify automobile transportation? Advance free speech on digital platforms? What’s the threat here?

Snyder: The U.S. is not just unreliable, it is behaving strangely. Allies like Romania, Poland, Taiwan and South Korea expect America to save resources for serious moments, not waste munitions, reputation and focus on wars it cannot explain. 1/

Not exactly the height of strategic wisdom to commit large forces and tie them down, risk significant casualties, and continue to upend the global economy just to save face and solve problems that were all created by a reckless and dumb decision to go to war in the first place.
Edward N Luttwak@ELuttwak

The USA has joined the ranks of the world's post-heroic countries that cannot tolerate even a few casualties to defend even major interests. 82nd troops & Marines in place w ample air support to cut risks did not occupy the Gulf islands to keep the seaways open. WH said no

This bad-faith statement proves he doesn’t understand or refuses to accept the actual risks and absence of reward for such a mission. Taking Kharg Island accomplishes literally zero unless the blockade is failing. Even if it’s not, the island becomes a kill box. Sign up gramps.

🦔Community protests have blocked $130 billion in data center projects so far this year. Q1 2026 produced the most blocked and delayed projects on record. Nashville collected 180,000 petition signatures in days. Charlotte voted on a moratorium. My Take These companies committed hundreds of billions in capex and filed IPOs on the assumption the data centers would get built. $130 billion of them didn't. Communities across the country figured out how to organize against these projects before the developers could lock in permits. The industry built its financial models around infrastructure that doesn't have permission to exist yet, at least not on the timeline the IPOs need. Hedgie🤗

if the admin wants people to believe the anthropic decision was made out of genuine security necessity rather than grievance-driven retaliation, high ranking officials could simply stop posting like this

Three months ago, @DeptofWar kicked @AnthropicAI out of our building—forever. Every passing day proves why that was the right move. 🇺🇸

The neocon regime change crowd is showing just how ridiculous and insatiable they are. Trump didn't just do "maximum pressure" he literally went to war for Israel against Iran, (twice!) and still it isn't enough for them. Until a million US troops die to plant an Israeli flag in Tehran, they will call every policy a failure and every president a weakling or antisemite. Trump should simple put them and Netanyahu on mute.

Frontier models cost billions to train and the inference is done at a massive loss. AI is now good enough for many tasks but need deep integration into companies to really work. Mistral aims to be a useful AI company rapidly being profitable and not engaging into an enormous bubble that is about to pop.
Ethan Mollick@emollick

Has there been anything good written about the failure of Mistral to keep up with both the Big Three and Chinese labs? They have talent and national backing, but despite being Europe’s only frontier lab (Google Deepmind’s UK lab aside), they haven’t been able to close the gap

On Ukrainian TV, I recently emphasized that all the Ukrainian success stories about successful deep strikes in Russia, cutting off Russia logistics and killing more Russians than are coming, did not reverse the trend of Russia slowly advancing in southern in eastern Ukraine.
