Make that a 1.38 ERA in Zeferjahn's last 24 appearances since June 1. Still quite good. He's finished 17 games for the Halos this season as an almost exclusively late-inning arm.

Ryan Zeferjahn has already pitched 51.2 relief innings this season, doing it well, to the tune of a 3.66 ERA. That ERA is just 1.28 in his last 24 appearances since June 1.

Garrett's end-of-2024 surgery was "left elbow UCL revision surgery with an internal brace," to be as specific as possible. His two major league outings this season were in mid May. He walked eight and allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings combined.

FINAL: The Cubs grab a series win in St. Louis with a 4-2 extra-inning victory over the Cards. Alex Bregman had two doubles and scored twice. He had a huge series, with 10 hits, seven of them for extra bases, in four days. Cubs (62-47) head home for series with Yankees, Dodgers.

Cardinals strike first in this afternoon's series finale. Javier Assad, on the mound for the Cubs, walked a pair in the second inning and gave up an RBI knock. Cubs down 1-0 after two.

FINAL: Pete Crow-Armstrong's tie-breaking homer and Matthew Boyd's seven scoreless innings go by the boards as Trent Thornton gives up a walk-off two-run double in the bottom of the 10th. Cubs, who had only three hits on the night, lose to Cards 3-2.
