Hi Henry, First thank you for deleting your erroneous accusations about me doing consultancy for universities. I'm not sure what the bone you are trying to pick is here. You are linking to a piece of work we did on trying to improve the understanding of student loans and putting it out for testing to see if it helped people. I don't know why you'd think that is a bad thing or why you don't agree with trying to improve communication about loans? However I can see you have this between your teeth, so let me answer your points and hopefully put your mind at rest. 1. Universities are charities (technically exempt charities) a bit like schools ie not for profit. I've long worked with many charities (and schools) on consumer advocacy and financial education. To be fair we have also on occassion worked with trade bodies or other big sectors in the profit world where there is a cross over of aim. Eg during energy crisis I set up a group with big bosses of energy firms and charities to work out how to help people. Or say on LISA campaigning, we worked with some firms who have a similar stance. If it helps consumers, and its not about profiteering then we would look at it. MSE's campaigning work is always independent, and is strictly done on our view of the best for consumers. 2. This was never about increased take up of services. This was primarily to protect students from making poor decisions after university due to loan statement confusion. Students don't choose to go to uni because of their statements, they get those once they're at uni. 3. I hope I'm reading this wrong, but on the back of your earlier now deleted comments, you seem to be concerned that what I do on student loans has some form of impropriety. I've no idea why. It isn't. You may well disagree with my view - which you are of course more than entitled to. Yet my view is honestly held and independent. I hope that answers your question. All the best
