The Dark Knight Returns 40th Anniversary - Carrie Kelley 🟢🟡🔴 The second Robin, Jason Todd was murdered by The Joker in Jim Starlin's 1989 arc 'Batman: A Death in the Family'. While Todd was the Boy Wonder in mainstream continuity, however, his death was written in Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley's 1986 series “Batman: The Dark Knight Returns”. Taking place in an alternate future on Earth-31, after Robin (Jason Todd) dies, Bruce Wayne hangs up the Batman mantle. 10 years later, Bruce puts on the cape and cowl when he has to fight the Mutant Gang in Gotham City. During this return, young Carrie Kelley becomes inspired to be Batman's new sidekick when the Dark Knight rescues her from muggers. Carrie slowly becomes the new Robin-in-training, already putting on the costume when she saves Batman's life from the Mutant Leader. After Carrie helps Batman defeat the re-surfaced arch nemesis the Joker, in the end Carrie, Green Arrow and the Caped Crusader establish a new Batcave along with the 'Sons of Batman'. In the 2002 sequel “Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again” by Miller in the same universe, Kelley transforms as combat ready Catgirl, remaining Batman's ally while they save the world from Lex Luthor and Brainiac's police state dictatorship.
