We are thrilled that Team Ino Cat has accepted FIFA's invitation to attend Mexico v Korea on Thursday, 18 June, in Guadalajara. The date coincides with the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, and FIFA will be sending a message of respect and inclusion together with Team Ino Cat. Meanwhile, the individual responsible for the discriminatory act against @inocat_cos during Korea's match against Czechia has been identified, and their ticketing account has been blocked. We have also noted his apology. FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society. The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings people, cultures and communities together — and anyone who goes against these values is not welcome in our game. We stand with Team Ino Cat and with every victim of discrimination. #FootballUnitesTheWorld #NoRacism

🚨 Arsène Wenger on the Lionel Messi red card controversy against Algeria at the 2026 FIFA World Cup: 🗣️ “I’ve watched the incident a few times now and, honestly, I think people are getting carried away. Was it a foul? Yes. Was there contact? Absolutely. But a red card? Come on. Not every challenge involving Lionel Messi has to become a worldwide controversy. For me, football has lost a bit of common sense when people start analysing one challenge frame by frame and ignoring everything else that happened in the match. We’re talking about a player who just scored a hat-trick, dominated the game and produced one of the performances of the tournament so far. Yet somehow the biggest discussion is a challenge that VAR looked at and decided wasn’t worthy of a red card. That’s football in 2026, I suppose. The referee saw it. VAR checked it. And they came to the same conclusion. That should tell you something. I understand why Algeria are frustrated. I understand why fans are debating it. But when I look at the incident, I don’t see excessive force. I don’t see aggression. I don’t see a player trying to hurt an opponent. I see a football action that happened at full speed. What surprises me is that some people seemed desperate for it to be a red card before they even saw the replay. If we’re being honest, if that challenge is made by an ordinary midfielder in the middle of the pitch, we’re probably not still talking about it hours later. The reality is simple. Messi didn’t avoid a red card. The officials didn’t believe it was one. And instead of spending all night discussing that challenge, maybe we should spend some time appreciating another incredible FIFA World Cup performance from one of the greatest players the game has ever seen.” {@SkyNews }
