I have signed another Ukrainian sanctions package, targeting in particular entities in Belarus. This is a signal to many of our partners about where pressure should be applied to reduce the scale and intensity of this war.
Belarus must not be drawn into this war. There must be no operations against other European countries. And Russia’s war against Ukraine must end in a dignified peace.

Sometime in the late 40’s, before either man were world famous, Frank Sinatra appeared in a theatre in New York. After his show, he went to Harlem to see the Will Maston Trio led by a young Sammy Davis Jr. Frank is blown away by Sammy’s talent, and after the show, he asks Sammy to come see his show.
A week goes by. No Sammy. Sinatra goes back to Harlem to see the Will Maston Trio again and asks Sammy why he didn’t show. Sammy said he was there, but they wouldn’t let him in. Frank stormed back to the theatre, tore up his contract in front of them, and never performed there again. That would be a common theme during the course of their friendship and careers. When Sammy wasn’t allowed to play at the Copacabana, Frank wouldn’t play there either.
When Sammy was refused a Las Vegas hotel room, Frank said, “Give him my room!” After Sammy’s car accident where he lost his eye, it was Sinatra who paid all his medical bills. After 5 decades and 40 years of performing together, a reporter once asked Frank why he was always so charitable to Sammy. Frank responded in three words, “He’s my brother.”

Trump: Today Is the Day You Pick a Side! Whose side are you on? Russia or NATO? Walk up to a camera. Look into the lens. Say it out loud. NATO or Russia. That is the entire question, and there is no space between those two answers where you get to hide. Thirty-one sovereign nations that have housed your troops, shared your intelligence, bought your weapons and bled alongside your soldiers for decades are now sitting with genuine, serious doubt about where your loyalty actually sits. You did that. You earned that doubt entirely on your own. So here is what we need: say that Russia is an adversary of the West. On camera. Without winking. Without a “but.” Just say it like a man who means it. Because if the answer is not clear, unambiguous and convincing, NATO should do the only rational thing: remove the United States from the alliance. As self-preservation. I resigned as U.S. Ambassador Ukraine when Trump kept siding with Putin over our democratic partner. Now, my successor is doing the same.
