I agree. Avatar Roku knew Fire Lord Sozin was expansionist, but he likely never imagined he would go as far as genocide. Conquering territory is one thing; wiping out an entire people is another. Roku’s greatest regret was probably not realizing how extreme Sozin’s ambitions truly were until it was too late.

@heisola13 I believe Roku's regret stemmed largely from his failure to recognize Sozin's genocidal tendencies rather than his expansionist tendencies. Taking part of a vast empire is one thing, but completely annihilating an entire race is quite another.

Avatar Roku didn’t spare Fire Lord Sozin out of ignorance—he spared him because of loyalty, friendship, and a deep belief in diplomacy over pre-emptive action. Roku and Sozin were close friends before their ideologies split. Even when Roku discovered Sozin’s expansionist ambitions, he still believed he could reason with him and prevent a full-scale war without resorting to killing a former friend and world leader. The problem is that Roku underestimated how far Sozin was willing to go—and that hesitation later became a turning point that allowed the Hundred Year War to begin after Roku’s death.

like is it really so hard to believe there might be some biological basis to being trans? does attributing it to some purely social phenomenon not strike you as missing something about why it happened in the first place and why the phenomenon exists worldwide?

See this is my issue with the opinion that gender is *purely* a social construct. Yes the social aspect has a MASSIVE impact but if you reset me and locked me in a room with no outside contact I'd still look at my body and feel a disconnect to it. its not JUST social!!

Toph Beifong discovered metalbending because her seismic sense let her detect tiny earth impurities inside metal. Seismic sense is a sensing ability, while metalbending is a bending technique, but the former directly led to the invention of the latter. Without Toph’s unique ability to see through vibrations, metalbending may have remained undiscovered for much longer. Once she proved it was possible, later earthbenders could learn metalbending through training without needing Toph’s extraordinary level of seismic perception.
