White people are not victims of racism in America. Stop suggesting they are.

The United States only exists because of the labor of black people. White people invaded, killed the native people, stole land, and then imported slaves to build a country their fat, lazy white asses couldn't build themselves. THAT is the truth of America's legacy.

My receptionist, Emily, lost her husband unexpectedly in a car accident. Our company policy allows for 3 days of bereavement leave. On day 4, she showed up, pale and shaking, trying to answer phones because she couldn't afford to lose her income. It was heartbreaking to watch. I put the 'Out to Lunch' sign up, locked the door, and sat her down. I told her, 'Go home. Take the month. Take two. Your salary will continue as if you are here 8 hours a day.' Grief doesn't have a 3-day expiration date. If you force people to work through trauma, you break them. If you support them, they remember it forever.

My great grandmother was a sharecropper she lived to be 100 years old and saw her children go to college. It’s always that deep it’s always that serious and it WASN’T that long ago.

People are out here using storage units, motel rooms, RV parks, libraries, and gym showers just to survive. And we still have politicians telling us the economy is strong.

Anonymous I’m a school nurse. We have a rule. Kids without lunch money get a cold cheese sandwich. Nothing else. It’s policy. This boy came in one Wednesday. Sixth grader. Stomach pain he said. I’ve been doing this twenty years. I know real stomach pain and I know hunger. “When did you last eat?” He looked at the floor. “Yesterday lunch.” Sent him to the cafeteria with a note. Told them to give him a full hot meal. Pasta. Salad. Milk. The works. Cafeteria lady looked at my note. Looked at me. Gave him the tray without a word. He ate like he hadn’t seen food in days. Probably hadn’t. Came back to my office after. “Am I in trouble?” “For what?” “For eating.” “That’s what food is for.” Started keeping granola bars, peanut butter crackers, juice boxes in my bottom drawer. For kids who come in with headaches that are really hunger. Stomachaches that are really empty. I’m not supposed to. Technically against policy. Don’t care. Told my principal once. She looked at me for a long moment..... Opened her desk drawer. Showed me her stash. Crackers. Fruit snacks. Applesauce. “What drawer?” she said. We never spoke of it again. That sixth grader is in high school now. Came to find me last spring. “I just wanted you to know I’m okay. And that I remembered. I always will.” He volunteers at a food bank on weekends. Has since he was thirteen. Best granola bars I ever bought.

Poverty is expensive in a way that people don’t understand. If you can’t afford a dentist you have long term teeth damage. Not affording healthy food means poor health. Not affording ‘good schools’ means missed opportunities. It is a compounding cycle.

Afroman got his house wrongfully raided by cops, then used the security footage in music videos trolling the officers. the officers sued him saying it invaded their privacy, but he argued it was legal since it happened in his own home during the raid. This case is actually amazing and everybody should pay attention.

I miss beauticians. NOT hairstylists. BEAUTICIANS. The ones where all you had to do was show up & they would knew just what your hair needed. The ones that shampooed, conditioned, & detangled your hair. The ones that did protein & hot oil treatments and kept up on trimming your hair. The ones that kept up with the latest hairstyles and tried them on you. The ones who kept you in the hair salon all day on a Saturday, but you were fine with it because the hairstyle lasted 2 weeks or more ❤️
