New by me —> Alden Global Capital makes for a better Hollywood villain — but the scale of local news destruction in Gannett's markets is simply astonishing. Staff size is down 59% in 4 years. At its biggest local papers, paid readers are down 77%. niemanlab.org/2023/03/the-sc…

I finished reading Chevy in the Hole last night and it’s a really amazing book. I’m still processing it. Whatever Kelsey Ronan writes next, I will absolutely read.

Unexpected trip to Arkansas this past week but our pup Jozy doesn’t mind at all. She got to visit one of her favorite places in the world. Lake Balboa in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Photos from 2022, 2015, 2009. Aging with grace ❤️

“Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.” - Sydney J. Harris and then Allan James McDonald
David Epstein@DavidEpstein

Need to process this one. Allan was a crucial source for ch.11 of Range. I had recently asked if I could pitch the memoir he wrote (for his grandkids) to publishers. Him: "Yes. If it were rocket science, I'd have done it already." npr.org/2021/03/07/974…

@BrentToderian @voxdotcom Interesting given the premise of the piece that they don’t address Eisenhower’s later regret that they were being built through cities. I think Eisenhower believed you could connect the country without disconnecting the cities.
