W Design Bureau from Austria has a conservative and lush touch in their art direction and it works for their clients. I don't know about you but when I am buying sausages, I don't want the packaging to look funny or brutal. [Link↓]

For those who think that talk of a Chinese crackdown in Hong Kong is just the whinging of a bunch of well to do capitalist bourgeoisie (trust me, I have come across that narrative before): 1. The owner of Book Punch, Pong Yat-ming, started his public life as an anti-capitalism campaigner who railed against property developers and allying with local HK farm collectives. 2. Even his bookstore looks and feels a lot like one of those left-wing “Co-op” type bookstores that one would find in the West. It is situated in a grittily poor, working class part of HK. It didn’t just sell books on Jimmy Lai and the like, one would find plenty of Chinese language Marxist texts there. It cross promoted produce grown by local HK farm collectives. It hosted lots of talks, not just by authors but also by farmers fighting land acquisitions/land degradation, as well as other community group leaders who worked with the poor and blue collar workers. 3. As such, Pong didn’t just talk the talk on his Marxism, he lived it. In view of the above, the latest assault on Book Punch is not just about crackdown on cultural, artistic and literary freedom. It is also completely in line with China’s crackdown on socialists and Marxists within Mainland China who have dared to talk about and to get organised in resisting class inequalities. It’s a case of first they come for capitalists, then they come for Marxists.

The owner of Hong Kong independent bookstore Book Punch has been arrested on suspicion of selling seditious titles, including the biography of jailed pro‑democracy media tycoon Jimmy Lai, according to local media reports. Local news outlets, including Ming Pao, citing unnamed sources, reported on Tuesday evening that the police force’s National Security Department carried out a search of Book Punch in Sham Shui Po and arrested one man and three women on suspicion of selling “a publication with a seditious intention.” Photos: Kyle Lam/HKFP. 1/4

every time someone mentions the font calibri, i'm reminded of the greatest story in the history of fonts - the 'fontgate' scandal in pakistan, where nawaz sharif's corruption was caught due to backdated documents using the calibri font which was commonly launched only in 2007

Always enjoy when Joshua Minsoo Kim takes on a controversial Kpop album first because he's a great writer and a discerning, principled critic and second because the next 18 hours become the ending of The One with Jet Li where he's smacking an infinite army of uncritical stans
