BREAKING: On Monday, 19 ships with 170 participants from the Global Sumud Flotilla broke off from the larger fleet to confront a cargo ship from the Mediterranean Shipping Company, owned by Italian billionaire Gianluigi Aponte. “It is the first time in history a civilian flotilla has directly disrupted the complicit route of cargo ships,” GSF Steering Committee member Saif AbuKeshek told BreakThrough News. The MSC Group is the world’s largest shipping line and has partnered with Israeli cargo company ZIM to freight military supplies to Israel throughout the genocide in Palestine, including to businesses in illegal Israeli settlements. Since the genocide began, least 500 MSC shipments to Israel have passed through European ports, triggering protests by dockworkers and citizens in Italy, Greece, and Spain. The Italian BDS Movement has called on Belgian authorities to enforce a 2025 court ruling that showed the company’s complicity with Israel’s war crimes. The GSF action took two days of planning to flag down the vessel in the vicinity of the Barcelona fleet, with resources provided by The Thousand Madleens, and with research from investigations conducted by the Palestinian Youth Movement on MSC, the targeted logistics company. What initially began as an attempt to divert the cargo vessel with 13 ships eventually grew to over 20 boats in total circling the MSC Maya. The maneuver was completed in 3 hours, and the mapped interlude can be seen below. GSF organizers said the ships “managed to successfully slow them down and force them to turn slightly off course, costing them fuel & time,” and that “This is just the beginning: we will not stop, we will not rest, until Palestine is free.” An impact report on this action has also been promised as a model for further escalation. This evening the fleet continues on toward Sicily to join up with more boats eventually departing from Italy. We will arrive to an Italian port sometime over the next two days. After the day’s action, GSF organizer Saif AbuKeshek told me that “breaking the siege on Gaza starts by ending complicity and bringing the weapons industry to its knees. The way I see it, the US and Israel are preparing the world's most obvious surprise attack against Iran, which I expect to happen in the coming week or two. It will be the widest and wildest operation conducted to destabilize and occupy Iran to date, combining a massive air campaign, assassinations, and a serious attempts to start a ground operation in Iran - potentially on Kharg Island or some other strategic point in the Persian Gulf. They may also try and do something big to take over the Strait. I wouldn't rule out a raid on the Iranian parliament, in an attempt to kidnap some leaders or potentially take over the building. Regional government buildings could also become targets for commando raids. I also wouldn't be surprised if the US and Israel used EMP bombs to try and blind Iran's military and shock and awe its population. It is not only the buildup of ground forces and the nonstop delivery of equipment into West Asia, it is a proper appreciation of Israel's control over the American system, which so many people still don't get. Israel is not done with Iran, and therefore the US is not done with Iran. The fake negotiations will most probably soon be over, or cut off abruptly for the new phase of the war to begin. Iran will face a major test - the biggest it ever faced. Once again, it will emerge victorious
