Some photos tell a deeper story than what you see on the surface. Our new certification card features an image by conservation filmmaker and photographer Kellon Spencer, captured in the waters of Dominica. The dolphin in the photo — known locally as Becky — is a solitary dolphin who often chooses to spend time with divers on her own terms. Kellon captured this moment while observing Becky’s curiosity about the sound of his fins at the surface. As she paused to investigate, he was able to frame the over-under shot with the island in the background — a moment that only happened because the interaction was genuine. As Kellon says, sometimes the most important thing you can do is put the camera down and experience the moment first.
