Sergeant Ray Holmes’ story is one of extraordinary courage in the face of overwhelming danger ✈️🔥 A journalist turned RAF volunteer, he was typical of the many ‘citizen airmen’ who defended our skies during the Battle of Britain 🇬🇧☁️ On 15 September 1940, Holmes made a split-second decision to ram an enemy bomber heading towards Buckingham Palace 🏰 after his Hurricane aircraft ran out of ammunition 💥—saving the royal residence. His actions helped protect London and embody the quick thinking and true British grit 💪🇬🇧 of all RAF personnel, who we’re proud to celebrate today on St George’s Day 🐉🌹
