A different side of F.P. Journe. Bid now >> bit.ly/4sM2002 The Octa Sport Indy 500 was introduced in 2012 as a limited series of just 99 pieces, created to commemorate French racing driver Jean Alesi’s participation in the Indianapolis 500. Housed in blackened aluminum, it marked a deliberate departure from traditional haute horlogerie materials, prioritizing lightness, durability and performance without compromising mechanical integrity. Two expressions of A. Lange & Söhne’s singular, demanding approach to watchmaking. The Grosse Langematik Gangreserve reflects the brand’s early post-revival philosophy: take a fundamentally simple display — time with power reserve — and execute it to the highest possible standard. Automatically wound via an offset rotor, this uncomplicated watch is uncompromising – a hidden feature is a zero-reset seconds hand for precise time-setting. At the other end, the Datograph Perpetual represents the manufacture at full stretch — combining a flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar, complete with oversized date, moon phases, and leap year indication. Introduced in 2006, it brought together two of watchmaking’s most demanding complications within a single, meticulously constructed caliber of over 500 components. A painting from Mark Rothko’s historic Multiforms series achieved HK $66.7 million / US $8.5 million in today’s white-glove Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction at #SothebysHongKong. The sale set a new record for a work from this celebrated series of early Rothko canvases. Created in 1949, ‘No. 10’ signals the beginning of Rothko’s innovative use of color and form that defined his career. The Multiforms series foreshadowed the grand canvases that we know today as his classic masterpieces. The Hong Kong Sales continue tomorrow with more modern and contemporary auctions. The Heuer Seafarer and Mareograph trace their origins to Abercrombie & Fitch in New York, where Heuer developed one of the earliest chronograph wristwatches with a tide indication, based on John Alden Knight’s solunar theory. While the Seafarer was produced exclusively for Abercrombie, the present Mareograph, reference 2447 SF and dating to circa 1955, belongs to an extremely short production run made for select Heuer retailers worldwide. Produced in very limited numbers, this example is further distinguished by its double signature, retailed by the esteemed Lucerne jeweler Gübelin. To date, it is the only known Mareograph to bear this retailer’s name. Sotheby's New York Fine Watches Auction 20 – 31 March 12 PM ET

Why is this HK $6 million sake vase meant to leak? Watch as Sotheby’s Alex Branczik brings the hammer down on this rare vessel at #SothebysHongKong. Kohiki vases originate from the Joseon dynasty and were designed with daily use in mind. Over time, the layer of white slip surrounding the clay would wear and stain, causing Amamori, or “rain-leakage,” markings. Today, these vessels are seen as exceptionally rare landscapes through time.

The foundational Patek Philippe Calatrava — with an unexpected link to the American motor industry. Introduced in 1932, the reference 96 marks the origin point: the first Calatrava, and a model that would define the brand’s design language for decades to come. Produced for over 40 years, its restrained proportions, three-piece case and time-only display established a template that became emblematic of understated refinement. Always read the caseback. This circa 1955 example carries an added layer of intrigue: a “GM Photographic” engraving. Such markings, often overlooked, can reveal a life beyond the manufacture — in this case, a connection to General Motors’ Photographic division, established in 1920 and responsible for documenting nearly a century of American industrial and cultural history. The Pasha has long stood apart within Cartier’s canon — round where the maison is typically angular, expressive where others are restrained. From the signature chained crown to the distinctive grille, it’s a design language that feels entirely its own, and remains underexplored by collectors today. Bid now >> bit.ly/4szo3a8 These two examples show the range. The “Phoenix” introduces cloisonné enamel — a rare handcrafted expression of the Pasha — while the white gold grille model leans into the design’s more architectural side, using the removable grid to frame the dial and shift the watch into something closer to jewelry.

Two modern Patek Philippe references that balance mechanical complexity with equally considered design. The reference 5146/1J centers on one of Patek’s most practical complications — the annual calendar — with a full calendar display, moon phase and power reserve, all driven by a self-winding caliber. Designed to require just one correction per year, it remains among the most useful and legible complications for daily wear. Alongside it, the reference 5130/1R distills the ingenuity of the world time complication — simultaneously displaying 24 time zones, powered by the ultra-thin caliber 240 HU. In both, Patek Philippe’s bracelet-making is on full display. Executed entirely in gold, each integrates seamlessly into the case, wearing with a comfort that matches their technical ambition. Immortalized by Elizabeth Taylor during the filming of "Cleopatra" in Rome, the Bulgari Serpenti stands as a masterclass in transforming jewelry into timekeeping. Bid now >> bit.ly/4bJBf5b Its signature bracelet, inspired by a wheat motif—known as Spiga in Italian—encircles the wrist with a fluidity that feels almost alive. The dial, nearly secondary, anchors the piece, allowing the form to do what Bulgari has always done best: captivate.
