Khamenei Jr.’s statement about Ghalibaf-Vance Pact “In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful Passionate and loyal people of Iran, As you have become aware, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Presidents of Iran and the United States. In the process of reaching this stage, the responsible officials, out of concern and with good intentions, made considerable efforts. It was, of course, the President of the United States who, out of desperation, employed various forms of leverage to bring about this agreement. As a matter of principle, I held a different view. However, because of the commitment given to me by the honorable President, in his capacity as Chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, on behalf of himself and the other members, regarding the safeguarding of the rights of the Iranian nation and the Axis of Resistance—and because they explicitly accepted responsibility for it—I authorized it. They have also explicitly stated that if the American side seeks excessive demands, they will not submit to them. From this moment on, we—that is, you, the proud nation, and this humble servant—will await the fulfillment of the stated conditions. It is, however, self-evident that any direct negotiations that may take place in the future do not mean acceptance of the enemy’s views. We hope that the benevolent prayers of our Master, may God hasten his noble reappearance, will bring all manner of victories and triumphs to the honorable people of Iran.
