Cuba’s nationwide blackout is a reminder: centralized grids fail hard. When one power plant goes down, millions lose electricity. But there’s another model: -Distributed energy -Local microgrids -Bitcoin mining as flexible demand A different energy future is possible. Some Bitcoin miners are not just saving on electricity costs, they are actually getting paid to take it. Susie Violet Ward (@DecentraSuze) breaks down how flexible load mining reduces grid wear and tear, cuts curtailment waste, and why ERCOT stands as one of the best real-world examples of this working today.

10,000 BTC for two pizzas in 2010. That single spend kicked off the biggest debate in bitcoin: Can bitcoin only be a store of value, or must it also become real money we use every day? Susie and Freddie will be debating this on Pizza Day in Bury St Edmunds. See you there 22 May. Who's coming? Drop a comment below. Tickets are available here: bsebtc.co.uk/event-details/…

In case you need reminding that @TheFCA is actively increasing the risk of customer harm by its heavy-handed application of the fin prom rules to assets like Bitcoin (which is money and a monetary asset, not a 'restricted mass market investment' as they allege), look no further than the excellent article below 👇. Nothing highlights this utter absurdity than hardware wallet providers being forced to geo-block UK bitcoin holders from web pages that do nothing more than teach customers how to use and hold their Bitcoin safely using hardware wallets. Denying UK customers access to these resources will in all likelihood increase their risk of harm and financial loss. While the FCA show no signs of changing their minds, I encourage you all to continue using and holding your bitcoin as you see fit, ignoring their paltry and ineffective attempts to miscategorize and control the uncontrollable. View these pages using a VPN or the Way back Machine. Buy and sell Bitcoin peer to peer. Send Bitcoin freely to each other, in complete disregard for an analogue regulator that insists on ignoring the expertise of those from the digital realm who have tried to change their course in the past. If they won't listen, we route round them.

The UK spends billions not producing energy, then allows people to freeze. The conversation is about cutting energy use. Almost no one is talking about creating energy abundance. That's the difference between decline and prosperity. You're solving the wrong problem, @Ed_Miliband. Great conversation with @LukeDeWolf on @RoxomTV about this.

UK regulators are still treating bitcoin like it's just another sh!tcoin. While the US opened the floodgates with spot bitcoin ETFs pulling in billions in institutional money, the UK is about to boot crypto ETNs out of normal Stocks & Shares ISAs in a few days. My full conversation with CCN about why this attitude is dangerous for the UK!

Officers would ‘no longer be policing perfectly legal tweets,’ the UK Home Secretary said. If you needed one sentence to sum up the madness of UK politics and policing, this is it. In 2023 alone they made 12,183 arrests for online 'communications offences'. Around 33 a day with fewer than 10% resulting in a sentence. Meanwhile detection rates for real crime collapsed. Police made over 65,000 arrests since 2017 for 'offensive or menacing' messages sent via phone, email and social media, while real crime went unsolved. It's a relief they're finally admitting it was a waste but why was this allowed to continue for so long? The irony is that it’s this that feels criminal. Article: bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Police time will no longer be wasted investigating legal social media posts, freeing up officers to patrol the streets and tackle real crime. By scrapping Non‑Crime Hate Incidents, we are balancing the protection of vulnerable communities while respecting free speech.

Just got back from CheatCode where I was on a panel called “The Fiat Panopticon: Defending Bitcoin in the UK”. A couple of days later, The Telegraph publishes this: Labour draws up equality law revamp that “will impose socialism” on Britain. The article outlines plans for a new “socio-economic duty” requiring government departments to factor inequality into decision making across schools, hospitals, policing and wider public services. It ties into the wider point we were discussing on stage, how systems evolve over time, gradually embedding more influence and control into how decisions are made. It does start to raise the question of how far that kind of model goes. As one critic quoted in the article: “This is unabashed class warfare targeting the middle class… embedded across the entire machinery of the state.” Once decisions are filtered through central criteria, it starts to shape outcomes in a very different way. This is why bitcoin is so important. It gives us a way to separate money from the state.

New research shows a worrying trend: physical attacks against Bitcoin holders are rising. 309 documented crypto-targeted attacks since 2014.
76 occurred in 2025 alone, a 77% increase from the previous year. As more identity-linked data is collected through regulation, breaches and KYC systems, it can unintentionally create targeting intelligence for criminals. Bitcoin is pseudonymous by design but when on-chain transparency meets large pools of personal data, it can expose individuals to real-world risk. Privacy and security must be considered carefully in future policy discussions. Read the full analysis here: bitcoinpolicy.uk/blog-1/f/how-r… @DecentraSuze @freddienew

The FCA lifted the ban on bitcoin ETNs for retail investors... ...but access remains constrained, fragmented and often out of reach. Banking barriers, restricted mass market classifications, tax disadvantages and limited investor protections continue to push users toward less regulated environments and risky proxies. Exactly the outcome policy is meant to prevent. Bitcoin is the best performing asset of the decade. When does protection become restriction?
