Tonight at the Cathedral of Saint Paul at 7:30 p.m. Organ soloists will be Kristina Rizzotto, Diane Meredith Belcher, and Melanie Ohnstad. The Women’s Schola of the University of St. Thomas Liturgical Choir, led by Dr. Elena Bird Zolnik, will introduce the ancient Gregorian melodies on which the new organ solo works are based, featuring the 86-rank Skinner/Aeolian-Skinner/Quimby pipe organ

A perennial favorite returns to the Cathedral of Saint Paul this Sunday. The @UMNChoirs will perform "Music for a Grand Space," with the addition of two guest conductors, along with the U of M conductor Dr. Matthew Mehaffey. Concert begins at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Adorning the interior dome - way up there - you can count 24 windows at the base of the dome. In the early 1950s, these were still filled with clear glass. Around 1955, Minneapolis designer Chester Weston set his talents to work on filling the windows with a "choir of angels." Three sections of eight "heavenly beings," each representing a specific choir or rank of angels. The windows trimmed in blue represent "Angels and Principalities," the lowest angelic sphere.
