IIT Roorkee is strengthening industry-academia partnerships to advance sustainable manufacturing, clean energy transition, innovation, and future-ready workforce development. Through strategic collaborations with NAMTECH and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), the Institute is fostering research, technology development, experiential learning, executive education, and talent transformation in areas such as green hydrogen, circular economy, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, ESG analytics, and sustainable infrastructure. The partnerships include establishing the Research and Experiential Learning Centre on Sustainable Energy and Circularity, coordinated by Prof. Andallib Tariq, Centre Coordinator, IIT Roorkee. A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed between IIT Roorkee and NAMTECH for the establishment of the Centre, supported through CSR funding from NTPC. In addition, a broader Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between IIT Roorkee and ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), creating a collaborative framework to accelerate innovation, sustainability, and industrial competitiveness. Researchers at IIT Roorkee have uncovered a critical metabolic vulnerability in the multidrug-resistant pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii, offering new insights for combating antimicrobial resistance. Led by Prof. Ranjana Pathania, with contributions from Avik Pathak and Dr. Snehlata Saini, the study published in mBio reveals how disrupting cysteine metabolism can significantly weaken the pathogen and enhance its sensitivity to antibiotics. IIT Roorkee researchers have identified key bioactive compounds in Ayurvedic Cow Urine Distillate (Gau Mutra Ark), demonstrating significant antiviral activity against the Chikungunya virus. Led by Prof. Shailly Tomar and her team from the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, the study reports over 90% reduction in viral load using Cow Urine Distillate and up to 99.85% reduction through an optimized natural compound-based formulation under laboratory conditions.
