I could be reading into this too much, but Cucrella, Sánchez, Caicedo and Colwill traveling with the away Squad means a lot to me. In a confusing week at the Club, I’m going to assume these four wanted to be available for their teammates and give them their full support. We’ve known for quite a while that these four are a part of the leadership group. Even though they couldn’t be there for them on the pitch, they were supporting on the sideline. Just another example of togetherness throughout the Squad. Little things like this go a long way.

World football for me is the crown of global sport, and it’s where culture,and passion meet. Tonight it felt the opposite for me, and I am really stunned. When a World Cup draw is handed to a basketball player, a baseball player, an ice hockey legend and an American football star, I don’t think that has to do with global diversity. For me it shows how far the game has drifted from its own centre. Seeing and listening to people who have never lived football, watching and listening about its meaning it’s already very bizarre.
