I want to recognize our teachers, cafeteria workers, administrators, special education assistants, custodians, bus drivers, and other dedicated workers who show up for our children every single day. Their work is essential, and they deserve a fair contract. Today, that commitment has been met. I am grateful to everyone who stayed at the table and worked together to put our families first.

I joined negotiations to push for a resolution, because a strike would have placed an enormous burden on working families across this city. The people who educate and care for our children carry one of the greatest responsibilities there is. They deserve respect, they deserve stability, and they deserve a fair agreement. Now we have one. Thank you to everyone who came together to put families first.

Los Angeles is home to one of the oldest Holocaust museums in the country. Founded by survivors, Holocaust Museum LA is dedicated to memory, education, and truth. We gathered for Yom HaShoah to remember the six million Jewish souls and countless others who perished in the Holocaust. It is a profound privilege to still be able to hear directly from survivors, to learn from them, and carry their stories forward. In a moment like this, when fear and hatred are on the rise, there is a moral urgency to listen. It is more important now than ever to preserve this history and educate future generations.

For the first time ever, Los Angeles has seen a two-year decline in homelessness. We have so much more work to do, but these stories matter.

I’m pleased that Baywatch will continue to film right here on Venice Beach. When I heard there were issues with Baywatch filming in Los Angeles, my Office took immediate action with Councilmember Park to clear any City-related barriers, including making parking easier and more affordable for the production.  This was a team effort, among my Office, Councilmember Park’s Office, the County, Coastal Commission, Fremantle and FOX, and I’m thankful for this continued partnership.  The City of Los Angeles will always clear bureaucratic barriers, making it easier and more affordable to film in the entertainment capital of the world.

I’m focused on ending Veteran homelessness in Los Angeles so that all heroes, like David, have stable, affordable places to call home.

Today, we announced a historic investment to address Los Angeles’ housing crisis, more than $300 million in affordable housing funding and an additional $14 million to help renters to stay housed. For decades, Angelenos have been forced to bear the burden of rising rents and eviction notices because City Hall failed to deliver housing and support for tenants. We are changing that broken system.

We’ve been able to reduce street homelessness by nearly 18%. But we’re not done. These are the stories behind the numbers.

No one who served our country should be sleeping on the street. Through our House Our Vets Initiative, we’ve been able to bring more than 750 Veterans inside — and this urgent work must continue.

Behind every statistic is a person with a story. Through Inside Safe, we are bringing people inside, connecting them to services, and helping them move toward stability. I will continue this urgent work to transform lives and make our neighborhoods safer.

Our Inside Safe team brought more than 40 unhoused Angelenos inside this week, helping them transition off the streets and into safe and stable housing. While there is more work ahead, for the first time ever, the tide is turning: homelessness has declined for two consecutive years in Los Angeles. This is real, measurable progress.

Today, Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove and I announced nearly $3 million in federal funding we secured to support housing and transportation improvements in Los Angeles. We fought hard for this funding to make Los Angeles safer and more affordable, and to build on the progress we’ve made over the last three years to reduce street homelessness. We announced this investment at a site that reflects the work ahead — a former vacant lot now home to 180 families, along with businesses, a school, and a Metro job training facility. The transit plaza serving this community benefited from federal funding I secured in 2022 while serving in Congress, and this new investment will bring additional improvements to the area.

As a result of my Executive Directive 1, more than 40,000 affordable housing units are in the pipeline and over 6,000 are already under construction. No one who served our country should be living on our streets. Los Angeles has enough housing vouchers to bring every unhoused Veteran into permanent housing. That is why we are partnering with property owners and making building easier, so Veterans can use these vouchers to come inside to safe, stable housing. Nearly 800 Veterans have been housed since we launched our “House our Vets” initiative, and we will keep going until every Veteran has a place to call home.

The farm worker movement fought for basic human rights long denied to some of the hardest-working people in our state and nation. Their courage and persistence helped inspire a generation of activists, including myself. We honor that legacy and the ongoing fight for dignity, equality, and fair working conditions for all. Each March 30, and every last Monday of March moving forward, Angelenos will have a chance to reflect on how farm workers have helped raise the standard for working people everywhere.

Peaceful protest is our constitutional right. When people come together to make their voices heard, that is democracy in action. Please stay safe and look out for one another.
