ANDY HILLENBURG ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEW
Can’t even begin to express how much I enjoyed getting to know Andy Hillenburg during my sit-down interview with him two weeks ago. I’m proud to have this interview released and I think others will enjoy hearing about the way he did things and the stories he tells.
Let me say that I have immense respect for the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. It does unmatched things for the sport and is ran by great people. Andy Hillenburg being enshrined in sprint car racing’s Hall of Fame should not be a debate. Andy spent 12 years on the World of Outlaws circuit and won 42 races as a driver, crew chief, and car owner all in one, which is unprecedented. In addition to that, he brought innovation to sprint cars with things like aluminum bird cages, titanium brake rotors, and more. He caught the eyes of corporate sponsors like STP and Luxaire and headlined their investment in Sprint Car racing in the late 80’s and 90’s. Being in Oklahoma a couple weeks ago, I came to realize firsthand that Andy was an icon for dirt racers and fans in Oklahoma. There are Okies who are sprint car fans today and watch races all over the country because they had Andy to root for a few decades ago. He has the statistical accomplishments and he made a much large enough impact on the sport. He should be in the Hall of Fame. I hope the voters see this interview and agree.
Enjoy!
