I reject the Nicene Creed. I am a Christian.

Mormons are often very personally offended when Christians say that Mormonism isn’t Christian. This is dumb. Joseph Smith’s first “encounter” with God involves God telling Smith that every creed Christians profess is an abomination to God. Every creed. That includes the Nicene Creed. They reject who God is, who Jesus is, the nature of salvation, the nature of exaltation, the clear teaching of Scripture, etc.. Mormonism rejects the very core of the Christian faith in all its essentials. Joseph Smith knew this but nowadays they are playing mind games with their own people and with real Christians. Either THEY are Christians or WE are. It’s one or the other. Not both. When asked “Will all be damned but Mormons?” Smith replied, “Yes, and a great portion of them unless they repent and work righteousness” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 119) The Doctrine and Covenants (1:30) leaves no doubt to the Mormon teaching of exclusivity when it says the LDS Church is “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased ….” Brigham Young, second only to Joseph Smith in Mormonism said… “Should you ask why we differ from other Christians, as they are called, it is simply because they are not Christians as the New Testament defines Christianity” (Journal of Discourses 10:230). “The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God” (Journal of Discourses 8:171). I could easily give you pages of them saying they are the only true Christians and how we are all ignorant beasts and our doctrines are wrong. They knew at the time they had a different God, gospel, Scripture, and system of belief. But now it has become expedient to pretend otherwise while still preaching all those false and unchristian things. Mormons, your leaders are gaslighting you and you are gaslighting us. You aren’t Christian but we want you to be. Flee from Mormonism. Flee from Joseph Smith.

The unmoved mover of classical theism that is being itself can’t change. It can’t enter humanity. So it can’t take on flesh. Your God of classical (Greek) theism is not compatible with the Bible. The Unmoved Mover is pure actuality (actus purus) with no unrealized potential. Change is the actualization of a potential. If something changes, it becomes what it previously was not. To become human, one would have to acquire characteristics one did not previously possess—having a body, occupying space, experiencing hunger, growth, suffering, and so on. Therefore, becoming human would involve moving from one state to another, which implies unrealized potential. But the Unmoved Mover has no unrealized potential and cannot change. Therefore, the Unmoved Mover cannot become human.

When you say I have to accept “the Nicene Creed” to be Christian, could you be more specific? Do you mean the creed produced in A.D. 325 at a council convened by the Roman emperor Constantine, who was trying to settle the Arian controversy and preserve unity in his empire? Or do you mean the version most Christians actually recite today, which comes from A.D. 381, when another Roman emperor, Theodosius I, convened the First Council of Constantinople to settle further disputes and more fully define the doctrine of the Holy Spirit? Because that seems like a pretty important distinction. One was created under Constantine, a Roman emperor with no priesthood authority, whose interest in Christianity was inseparable from his interest in imperial stability. The other was expanded under Theodosius, another Roman emperor who used state power to enforce religious uniformity. And somehow I’m supposed to believe that my faith in Jesus Christ is invalid unless I accept the theological conclusions of emperor-sponsored councils held centuries after Christ and His apostles? You are free to trust those councils, led by rulers of the same empire that crucified Christ. But please stop pretending that your post-biblical, politically entangled, imperial committee language is simply “biblical truth.” And stop acting like you have the authority to decide who is and is not Christian based on a person’s willingness to pledge allegiance to Rome’s preferred definition of the Divine.

Mormons, you have Dirty Dr. Pepper at McDonald's now. You're having a moment. Enjoy it. Don't try to act like everyone hates you. The persecution complex is not fooling many of us. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this: >You either get to believe that God appeared to a 14-year old boy in the 1800s and told him that all of the religions were false and he should start his own. >Or you can believe the true Gospel and align with thousands of years of Christian tradition. Which is supported by archaeological evidence and testimony and the fruits of Christian orthodoxy. "Oh but we believe in Jesus Christ and that he died for us!" Sure, but you also believe that Satan was Jesus' brother. And that they're both the sons of God and that God is also a son of God and god has a wife and this goes on and on for all eternity. And that the Holy Ghost, God and Jesus Christ are *three distinct beings* united in purpose. So, POLYTHEISM. And a mountain of other absurdity.

Read the Book of Mormon. Cover to cover. Pray about it, asking sincerely to know whether it’s true (the final chapter provides specific guidance on this point). Then tell me whether Latter-day Saints believe in Jesus Christ. Will you accept that challenge?
