Farewell World. After yeterday's stunning "Hello World" photo, Christina Koch is seen here gazing out of the window as Earth gets smaller. Neil Armstrong once said there's no feeling of motion (there's no wind resistance of course) and Earth simply sinks into the inky blackness.

Lock in, we’re Moonbound. Artemis II astronauts are more than halfway to their destination, and preparations for lunar flyby are underway. During their trip around the far side of the Moon, they will capture imagery to share with scientists (and you, too!).

📸@NASA

This is a wild moment inside the cockpit, just 2 minutes after leaving Florida. At 150,000 feet, the sky was gone from light blue to black, and the ride on the huge, solid rockets has been violent, jamming us up through the air. Suddenly there's a blast of pyrotechnics. Even though we're going Mach 5, the air is so thin the explosion arches out in front of the windows. Now being pushed by just the 3 Shuttle engines, the ride goes smooth, with a huge feeling of relief - getting rid of those solids means you're much safer, and halfway to orbit. I've done it twice. Atlantis and Endeavour. A great start to an amazing adventure.

On what would have been Gus Grissom's 100th birthday. As we enjoy the awe & wonder of Artemis II, please take a moment to remember Gus, and crewmates Ed White (L) & Roger Chaffee (R) who lost their lives during the Apollo 1 fire at LC-34. L: #GeminiRemastered, R: @DavidJDPhotos
