EV credits induce sprawl 🏘️, but net CO₂ still falls 4.4%. The authors show carbon taxes and EV subsidies are complementary 💨 — carbon pricing internalizes the sprawl externality, nearly tripling welfare gains. 📈

New research in #JAERE shows EV tax credits reduce emissions and raise welfare— but not without costs. Using a monocentric city model, the authors show a $7,500 credit increases EV adoption from 22% → 49%, expanding city area by ~7% and lengthening commutes.🚗 #JaereFigureFriday
