Unforgettable scenes of FC Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff confronting Spanish police after receiving a controversial red card during the 1975 match against Málaga CF.
Cruyff stood face to face with police officers on the pitch and refused to step back. After protesting the referee’s controversial decisions, he was shown a red card. What followed became a moment forever etched in memory.
At the time, Spain was still under the dictatorship of Francisco Franco. The regime had banned Catalan identity, language, and symbols for years. FC Barcelona was seen as more than a football club, but as the cultural and political voice of the Catalan people.
As he was escorted off the pitch by police, Cruyff removed the captain’s armband carrying the red and yellow colors of the Senyera, turned toward the Camp Nou stands, and kissed it in front of thousands.
