2023, I missed my convocation. I missed my induction. I donโt have a single group picture with my lecturers or the people I graduated with. I couldnโt go for NYSC I didn't celebrate anything I couldn't afford it.
Iโve never really โdone lifeโ the way people assume. I didnโt go on my first date until this year never been to the beach, never been to the cinema, never really had fun. Everyone looks at me when I say these things.
Before that, a lady once offered to take me out because I told her I had never experienced it. She didnโt mind paying I even said I don't have money to come down to the island, she said she will order an uber. I felt uncomfortable, worried, even scared. I chickened out and said no I felt like a useless man, I couldn't afford shit.
Not because I didnโt want to go, but because something about it just reminded me of where I was financially.
Then this February, I finally went on my first date. I paid for everything. Spent money I normally wouldnโt.
So when people say โmen should stop faking maturity and celebrate themselves,โ it sounds nice, but itโs not the full picture. A lot of guys are not avoiding joy. We just donโt have the leverage for it.
Most men in Nigeria are broke. Thatโs the reality. Not lazy, not unwilling, just financially constrained. We miss moments, not because we donโt care, but because we canโt afford to show up for them.
This might be the 1st year Iโll actually celebrate my birthday the way I want, and Iโm doing it properly. Iโll go out, hit the beach, enjoy myself this time. Not because I suddenly became a different person, but because I finally can. I also celebrated Valentine's Day for the first time. Documenting everything is fun when you have money to pay for it.
A lot of us want to celebrate with friends and family. We want those memories. We want to show up fully. But poverty quietly takes those moments away and replaces them with survival.
Thatโs why Iโve always tried to position myself to help people break out of it.
Because poverty is deeper than money. It steals experiences, confidence, and even the ability to enjoy life.
God bless the women, that came into my life ๐ญ๐ญ I can finally say afford to do things.

Reducing what goes on in a boyโs head on his birthday to fake maturity is an evidence to how insensitive the other gender can be to a boy, many times even in relationships.
For boys, a lot of expectations are attached to age
While birthday is a call for studio photoshoot for some
for many boys, new age is a reminder of the apartment of their own that they should have had
Itโs a reminder that they are getting too old to be where theyโre financially, academically and relationship wise etc
On a normal day a boy could just sit and start thinking of how to move forward in life, that thinking is more intense on a birthday
So if they donโt send a picture of themselves as broadcast to all contacts on WhatsApp group for a repost, itโs not a flex
They are grateful for life, but when they have something truly worth celebrating they wonโt hold back
Itโs not fake maturity, we are usually on a date with reality and reality is not friendly.

A cutting reflection from Cardinal Ratzinger, Good Friday 2005:
"Pilate is not utterly evil. He knows that the condemned man is innocent, and he looks for a way to free him. But his heart is divided. And in the end he lets his own position, his own self-interest, prevail over what is right.
Nor are the men who are shouting and demanding the death of Jesus utterly evil. Many of them, on the day of Pentecost, will feel "cut to the heart," when Peter will say to them: "Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God... you crucified and killed by the hands of those outside the law."
But at that moment they are caught up in the crowd. They are shouting because everyone else is shouting, and they are shouting the same thing that everyone else is shouting. And in this way, justice is trampled underfoot by weakness, cowardice and fear of the diktat of the ruling mindset. The quiet voice of conscience is drowned out by the cries of the crowd.
Evil draws its power from indecision and concern for what other people think."

i was 19 and casually seeing a girl. then one day! found a lump in one of my testicles while i was taking a shower. went to the doctor and it turned out that it was cancer and that they would have to remove it. oh, and i would have to have at least 2 rounds of the most intensive chemo out there if i wanted to not die. there was also the very strong chance that i would be sterile for the rest of my life. realizing that this was something that i might not survive i ended things and dropped off the face of the planet for the girl i was seeing, as i didn't want to end up being the dead boyfriend. she found out what was going on though and basically insisted that she be with me through it all. she came to every single 8-10 hour chemo session and helped me through recovery.
fast forward 6 years and we are happily married with 2 kids and our 3rd on the way.

It was a diagram that was used in teaching this topic in integrated science. Nigeriaโs education doesnโt pay attention to practicals at all.

This is an example of natural water filtration. Most of the drinkable water our ancestors consumed in our villages passed through this type of filtration.

They shouted Hosanna like it would last forever.
They laid down palms, cloaks, their pride. They treated Jesus Christ like a king finally returning to claim his throne.
But they didnโt understand what kind of king He was. He rode in not on a war horse, but on a borrowed donkey.
Not to conquer Rome. To walk straight into death.
That same crowd, loud with praise, would fall silent in days. Some would disappear. Some would watch. Some would join the voices that shouted for His execution.
Palm Sunday is more than just a celebration.
It is a warning of how quickly devotion turns when it costs something.
How easily we praise what we donโt yet understand.
And how often we welcome truthโฆ only to reject it the moment it demands sacrifice.
Happy Palm Sunday!
