The alleged killer of Madlanga Commission witness Marius van der Merwe, Matipandile “Andy” Sotheni, has denied any involvement in the murder.
In an affidavit presented during his bail application, Sotheni admitted he was in the Brakpan area -where van der Merwe lived -on the day of the murder but claims he was two streets away at the time.
He further argued that the state does not have CCTV footage linking him to the killing and denied being in possession of an AK-47 when “Witness D” was gunned down.
Sotheni also addressed ammunition found in a bag at his home, which the State alleges belonged to the police. He claims the ammunition belonged to Wiendre Pretorious, who later took his own life.
According to Sotheni, he was with Pretorious on the day of the murder but insists they never conspired to kill van der Merwe.
“I was not party to the alleged offence,” Sotheni stated in his affidavit.
The state is opposing bail and proceedings continue.

Young Pharmacist Who Opened Pharmacy to Help Her Community Shot Dead Alongside Cashier and Security Guard Few Days After Opening the Pharmacy
A young pharmacist who recently opened a pharmacy to improve healthcare access in KwaNyuswa near Hillcrest has been shot and killed alongside a cashier and a security guard. The deadly attack happened at a pharmacy in Inchanga on May 19, 2026, leaving residents shocked by the loss of three lives.
The pharmacist, identified as Nomzila Madinane, had reportedly opened the pharmacy after recognising that many community members were travelling long distances to access medication and healthcare services. Residents described her as a young entrepreneur committed to serving the local community through improved healthcare access.
KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that Inchanga police opened three murder cases following the shooting. Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said two women were fatally shot at the pharmacy, while the security guard sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital. Reports indicate that three armed men entered the pharmacy and opened fire.
The cashier and Madinane were killed at the scene while the security guard was shot while attempting to intervene. Police said the motive for the attack remains unknown, and investigations are continuing to determine whether the shooting was linked to robbery or another motive.

Brown Mogotsi is reportedly struggling in police custody following his arrest on Friday evening.
His legal representative, Makau Sekgatja, revealed that Mogotsi is finding it incredibly difficult to cope with the harsh reality of life behind bars. The arrest unfolded in dramatic fashion in Pretoria, executing a swift countdown just as Mogotsi concluded his testimony before the Madlanga Commission.
According to police officials, the severe charges of defeating the ends of justice stem from a highly controversial, allegedly staged assassination attempt. With his mental endurance pushed to the brink, all eyes now turn to his scheduled court appearance tomorrow morning. #MadlangaCommission

Brown Mogotsi has been arrested for attempting to change a statement as part of his submission to the Madlanga Commission
Brown had implicated Carrim Sulliman through WhatsApp calls and WhatsApp messages
However, Mogotsi deleted many messages then re-submitted the evidence, to try and favour himself
Evidence leaders found that & raised it with Commissioners, hence Brown will now spend days in jail for "lying under oath", "perjury", and "defeating the ends of justice."

It’s actually interesting that Elon Musk is the richest man in the world and still carries himself like the awkward little kid at lunch who doesn’t know where to sit. Most rich powerful men walk into rooms with entourages acting like superstars wanting everyone to look at them. Elon walks in looking like a fish out of water at the wrong party wondering why he even showed up while probably thinking about self driving algorithms while everyone else is socializing. There’s something weirdly real and endearing about it, like all the fame and attention just feels unnecessary to him.

@ZANewsFlash I will certainly not vote for parties that waste taxpayers’ money by travelling to Parliament with the deliberate intention to disrupt proceedings, walk out, or turn sessions into theatre instead of doing the work South Africans pay them for!
