The action followed an emergency directive from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), which flagged the account as a threat to national security and the sovereignty of India. The IB stated that the account was systematically publishing inflammatory and provocative posts capable of causing widespread public unrest. Security agencies expressed alarm over the extreme traction the movement was gaining among young people. Official assessments reported that a significant percentage of the handle's followers originated from Pakistan and Bangladesh, raising concerns regarding an external anti-India agenda. Intelligence tracing revealed that the X page had been repurposed multiple times, initially originating as a political page for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Gujarat in 2021. The Cockroach Janta Party is a satirical, anti-establishment collective founded online by digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke. It was launched deliberately creating a public controversy involving a remark by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, who allegedly compared certain unemployed internet activists to "cockroaches" attacking the system. Using viral meme campaigns, mock manifestos, and satire, the page quickly ballooned into a massive digital counterculture movement addressing youth grievances like unemployment, inflation, and exam paper leaks. While its primary X account was withheld at roughly 200,000 followers, its companion Instagram handle exploded past 16 million followers in under a week, surpassing the total follower count of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Hours after the restriction, founder Abhijeet Dipke announced a backup handle on X called Cockroachisback, which quickly gained over 150,000 followers. Government officials have indicated that similar blocking orders against the platform's multi-million follower Instagram account are currently being processed. Outfits like the Internet Freedom Foundation criticized the block, calling it an opaque move that bypasses constitutional speech safeguards under the guise of "national security". I suffer from severe dust allergy, yet I have no option but to ride through this road daily for my bread and butter. Every day, the dust turns my eyes red, covers my body and clothes, and even makes my hair appear white. People laugh after seeing me covered in dust and say, “It’s your @BJP4India government.” Sometimes I even hesitate to wear a mask because people mock that too. This is not politics for me anymore — this is daily suffering for ordinary people. We are not asking for luxury. We are only asking for a proper road, clean air, and a little dignity in daily life.
