@CrystalStance @party_animals they're a chinese company. i get the feeling they might have used AI for translation.
English

@party_animals Em dashes okay but what's up with "consideration of the event's conception" ?!

English

Dear Party Animals players,
Regarding the controversy surrounding the recent "Golden Paw Awards" AI Video Contest, we would like to offer our deepest apologies to all players who have expressed concern, shared criticism, and voiced their opinions — especially to our creator community.
Following the announcement of this event, we received a significant amount of negative feedback. We have read through your comments and opinions one by one. We must admit that our consideration of the event's conception was insufficient, the design was inadequately thought through, and our communication with the community was not up to par.
Even though our original intention was to encourage more diverse forms of creative expression and lower the barrier to entry, allowing more players who love Party Animals to participate, we mistakenly tied "lowering the barrier" together with "using AI." In doing so, we overlooked the potential offense and harm that the ongoing debate surrounding AI-generated content could cause to our players and the creator community. We feel deeply uneasy and apologetic about this, and we sincerely accept the criticism.
After carefully considering voices from all sides, we held a vote across our major platforms regarding whether the event should proceed. Based on your feedback and our own internal review and reflection, we have made the following decision:
Effective immediately, the "Golden Paw Awards" event is officially canceled.
To the players who were troubled, disappointed, or offended by this situation, we would like to once again express our sincere apologies. To every player who voiced criticism, participated in the vote, and pushed us to re-evaluate this issue, we would like to express our most sincere gratitude.
Moving forward, we will approach related topics with a much more humble and cautious attitude. Before launching any future community creation events, we pledge to communicate thoroughly, listen earnestly to your feedback, and ensure we have reached a community consensus before deciding whether to go ahead.
Additionally, we will continue to collect, organize, and act upon player feedback regarding gameplay mechanics and other areas. We hereby promise to listen more closely to our players, respect your voices, and maintain a tighter line of communication with the community.

@hadesofacheron @BritTrashPanda @party_animals please don't conflate a clearly translated response with being AI
they're a chinese company and their twitter is clearly run by a marketing team. there was never any way it was going to look like anything other than this.
English

@BritTrashPanda @party_animals I use em dashes but ai was still clearly used here.
English

@Lu011_ @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang I do assume there's some inherent quality that would meaningfully separate "abberants" from "abnormalities", but it would probably have more to do with the Well they're sourced from or them being a byproduct of another Well. It's not power level, it's just origin.
English

@Lu011_ @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang So abberations (at least by WonderLab terms) are defined as specifically being 'main branch' offshoots, actually. Basically, they're variants of the main LobCorp abnos only.
This makes sense because LobCorp is also the main Well that abnos are drawn from.
English

@Lu011_ @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang My fave official take is Stuck in Heaven - repping the idea that once you start a long-term task that you must devote yourself to, you can't truly finish it, mirroring the way Burrowing Heaven demands your full attention lest it start making trees in LobCorp. I think it's neat.
English

@Lu011_ @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang The key point of an abberation is that it reflects a different view. The first one in Wonderlab was of Red Shoes. Originally, Red Shoes was about the Wicked Witch's desire for the shoes. Red Shoes' abberation, The Penitent Girl, was about Dorothy's guilt over having them. (3/4)
English

@Lu011_ @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang It may come back, but I doubt it. Some of the unused data from the refights mentions abberancy, so it's still a term they're thinking about.
Plus, they're still doing it, there's just no label. Der Fluchschütze. Recurring Faith & Promise. Losing the term isn't stopping them lol
English

@3Heads0Thoughts @minisaul_1808 @FDuwang made my acc in s2 because i wanted to complete ruina first 🥀
Thank god if they cant use that word tho I fucking hate the concept
English

@minisaul_1808 @Lu011_ @FDuwang Incorrect. In pre-release, Ebony Queen's Apple was explicitly called an aberration, and had a code suiting it (F-04-42-SP).
That's why people cite it as a reference. If you were playing back when this came out, you know it.
This was scrubbed, most likely because of the lawsuit.
English

@BarleyTheBurr @party_animals Looks like it's a cultural diff thing? They've reversed course but according to research apparently Chinese companies are viewing AI as more of a tool.
They're probably not going to poke this again with a ten foot pole lol
English

@party_animals So glad you let me know that I shouldn’t stream your game! I was considering it but this makes my decision for me! Thank you! :D

@StarlitSiren @party_animals Which would make it more vulnerable to stuff like cultural biases.
That being said, they have a fresh new poll with at time of writing 8000 responses, but only ~800 want any AI involvement at all.
If AI ever crosses marketing's mind in the future... Receipts will fly lol 2/2
English

@StarlitSiren @party_animals I agree, I did see that. But I don't think they have a Twitter manager. They kind of run it like a bulletin. So I think normally unless they get a lot of engagement they don't pay enough mind here. And even if someone did notice, I would bet you this is a marketing team thing 1/2
English

Hi everyone. We’d like to address the recent discussion around the AI video contest, and first of all, we’re sorry for upsetting players with this event. We’re also sorry that we didn’t communicate with everyone clearly enough before the event started.
Our original goal was to lower the barrier to creation. In past contests, we saw players with great ideas and scripts who couldn’t fully bring them to life because they weren’t familiar with tools like editing, modeling, or animation software. We hoped AI could be a more accessible tool that lets more people take part.
That said, we understand the concerns around AI content. We are not trying to dismiss handmade work or disrespect creators. To us, AI is just another tool. What we truly care about is the idea, the expression, and the final work.
We’d like to leave the next step up to the community. Please vote on what we should do:
1. Cancel the AI video contest
2. Change it into a non-AI creation contest
3. Keep the AI category and add a separate handmade category
If you have another suggestion outside of these three options, please feel free to share it as well.
Thank you.
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals Probably.
But hey, maybe whoever made the poll didn't think so?
I'm assuming I'm right here, but I at least appreciate they didn't make the lukewarm option some ass-patting "omg nooo don't change anything ur perfect babe"
Even though I kind of wish they did. It'd be cathartic
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals I mean, yeah. I think it should be there.
Being real: if you just assume that this is a marketing team decision backfiring and whoever made the poll wanted to show in concrete numbers that we fucking hate AI, poll having a lukewarm option makes a lot more sense.
English

@3Heads0Thoughts @party_animals In doing so you're defending the 3rd options existence.
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals I'm being fair about them having the third option, which was the part you criticized?
I understand we're on Twitter so it's really easy to assume I'm some argumentative AI patriot but I promise I'm not. AI sucks.
I just don't believe in giving people unfair critique.
English

@3Heads0Thoughts @party_animals You did at the start by opening with "to be fair". Its as pathetic as their "Sorry, but" excuse of an apology.
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals Never said that.
Actually have said repeatedly the contest was tone deaf and would have caused an uptick in English genAI use.
So they absolutely would've still caused harm and the contest itself wasn't OK.
Just saying there's some understandable ignorance on their end.
English

@3Heads0Thoughts @party_animals Im not gonna read more from someone defending the decision to embrace ai slop.

English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals I'm going off stuff like Bloomberg and the NY Times - here's an article from Nov for you. I'm not sayimg they're perfect, for the record, but it's oneof multiple factors causing a cultural divide. (2/2) nytimes.com/interactive/20…
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals Data is from 2024; while the green energy push in China is, far as I can tell, recent. Most of what I read while researching is the last few years. It's also worth noting that the same data actually shows per-capita, China is actually 25th in emissions. (1/2)
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals That being said, presenting this contest to their EN community would not have caused an uptick in AI gen in China. It would have caused an uptick in the EN community.
So while the misunderstanding is kind of understandable, the contest itself was a horrible idea. (2/2)
English

@UsagiKaede1 @party_animals To be very fair to them, they're a Chinese company. China's actually been pushing renewables, which means their energy isn't tainted as badly as ours when it comes to environmental costs. There's a real cultural divide here. (1/2)
English
