May 22, 2026 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ADC DEMANDS ACCESS TO EL-RUFAI, WARNS ICPC AGAINST FURTHER INTIMIDATION * 3 TRUCKLOADS OF POLICE OFFICERS ARRIVE AT ICPC AS AREGBESOLA, ABDULLAHI, LUKMAN ATTEMPT TO VISIT EL-RUFAI The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to express its concern over the refusal of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to grant senior leaders of our party access to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State and a prominent leader of our party, who remains in the custody of the Commission. Earlier today, alongside the National Secretary of our party, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and the Secretary of the ADC Policy and Manifesto Committee, Mallam Salihu Lukman, we visited the headquarters of the ICPC in Abuja to see Mallam El-Rufai. Despite prior communication and formal requests, we were denied access without any reasonable explanation. While we were at the premises awaiting a response to our request, the atmosphere suddenly became noticeably tense after no fewer than three truckloads of armed police officers arrived at the facility. The heavy deployment, which appeared entirely unnecessary and disproportionate to the peaceful presence of unarmed political leaders, created the unmistakable impression that the authorities feared that the mere presence of opposition leaders at the Commission could trigger public outrage. It is deeply troubling that a simple request by senior party officials to visit a detained colleague was met, not with professionalism, but with a show of force more suited to the suppression of civil unrest. At no point did members of our delegation threaten disorder, incite confrontation, or mobilise supporters to the premises. Yet the response of the state suggested panic, fear, and an attempt to intimidate not only our party leaders, but also any Nigerian who may dare to question the treatment being meted out to opposition figures. Such actions only reinforce growing public concern that state institutions are increasingly being used, not merely for law enforcement, but as instruments of political pressure and psychological intimidation against dissenting voices. It is important to state that the National Secretary of the ADC had previously written officially to the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, requesting visitation rights to Mallam El-Rufai, especially in light of growing public concerns regarding his wellbeing and reports that he has faced repeated restrictions on access to family members and medical personnel. Let it be clear: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is not a fugitive. He voluntarily submitted himself to the authorities. Under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he is entitled to dignity, medical care, family access, and fair treatment under the law. What we are witnessing increasingly appears to be punishment by process, intimidation through isolation, and an attempt to break the spirit of a leading opposition figure. The ADC will not stand by and watch one of its leaders subjected to this pattern of harassment and calculated humiliation. Nigeria is watching. The international community is watching. The world is watching. We therefore demand that the ICPC immediately grant unrestricted access to Mallam El-Rufai by his family, doctors, lawyers, and leaders of his political party. Anything short of this will only reinforce public perception that state institutions are being weaponised against opposition voices. Signed: Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi National Publicity Secretary African Democratic Congress

This is no longer just about Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. This is now a direct test of Nigeria’s democracy, rule of law, and the arrogance of state power. When senior ADC leaders, including Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, and Mallam Salihu Lukman, are reportedly denied access to El-Rufai at ICPC, Nigerians must ask a serious question: what exactly is the government afraid of? If El-Rufai is being investigated, let the investigation follow due process. If there is a case against him, charge him properly. If there is evidence, take it to court. But denying political leaders access, shutting out legitimate visitors, and creating an atmosphere of secrecy only strengthens the belief that this is not prosecution, but political persecution wearing an anti-corruption uniform. A democracy cannot function where institutions are turned into instruments for settling political scores. Anti-corruption agencies must not behave like private enforcement units for the ruling party. The law must be firm, but it must also be fair, transparent, and consistent. Today, it is El-Rufai. Tomorrow, it can be any opposition figure. That is why every Nigerian who believes in justice should be concerned, whether they like El-Rufai or not. The issue is bigger than personality. It is about whether citizens, politicians, lawyers, family members, and party leaders can still rely on basic rights when power becomes angry. ADC leaders going to ICPC was not a crime. Asking to see a detained political figure was not an act of rebellion. Denying them access only exposes the fear, the desperation, and the dangerous direction of this administration. Tinubu’s government must understand that 2027 cannot be managed through intimidation. You cannot silence dissent, isolate opponents, harass political actors, and still claim to be defending democracy. If there is a case, charge him. If there is no case, release him. But this shadowboxing with the law must stop.

ELRUFAI vs FG: Attempt to indict El-Rufai turn into an own goal. The crazy thing about this news if confirmed to be true is that, It didn't prove that Mallam tapped NSA’s phone! But by admission of the NSA it gives everything Mallam said credibility. It an attempt to indict Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, but it is even more indicting of Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, meaning it is a clear own goal. Those who were in court yesterday, will know that there was no forensic data presented in court to show that Mallam tapped the NSA’s phone. So the only way the NSA could have arrived at that conclusion is if what Mallam was saying were conversations or information that actually existed and Ribadu recognized them. That is the point, and the problem is he cannot cherry pick what to believe and what not to believe, in a one hour interview with plenty accusations, it is either we believe all he said or we don’t believe all. Now, what is crazy is why is the government not talking about the other allegations made in the interview since Mallam is so credible? I am not exonerating Mallam even though I can but I am not, nor am I saying he did what you are accusing him of. I am making a comment based on the admission of the National Security Adviser. And we all know that the burden of proof in court lies with the person making the allegation, in this case the Federal Government who took Mallam to court. These things are supposed to be common knowledge but it is well.

Hope in the Darkness: A Message to Every True Supporter of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai These are not easy days. We watch with heavy hearts as Mallam Nasir El-Rufai continues to endure prolonged detention and repeated violations of court orders. Yet even in this darkness, we refuse to lose hope. History has shown us time and again that the greatest leaders are often tested in the fire, and it is in such seasons that their true strength and the loyalty of their supporters shine brightest. Mallam has faced greater storms before and emerged stronger; this moment will be no different. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is not just a politician; he is a man of uncommon courage and conviction. The same qualities that made him build Kaduna and serve Nigeria with excellence are the very reasons they fear him even while he is locked away. Every day he spends in custody only proves one thing: they cannot break his spirit, and they cannot silence the movement he inspires. What they see as weakness is actually the fuel that keeps us going. Look around you. The persecution that was meant to bury Mallam has instead awakened millions of Nigerians. From every geopolitical zone, supporters are rising with greater determination. The movement is not shrinking; it is expanding. Every violation of his rights, every denial of medical access, and every attempt to isolate him is turning more hearts toward justice. What they intended as a weapon against him has become the very thing that is uniting and strengthening us. We have every reason to hold on with greater hope. The law is on our side, the people are waking up, and the God we serve does not sleep. Mallam’s freedom is not a question of “if” but of “when.” Every court appearance, every public outcry, and every prayer from loyal supporters is bringing that day closer. In Shaa Allah, the sun will rise again, and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai will walk out with his head held high. So stand firm, dear supporters. Do not be discouraged. This is not the end of the story; it is only a difficult chapter. Keep praying, keep speaking, and keep believing. Mallam has never abandoned us, and we will never abandon him. Together, we will see the dawn. The Movement is Rising. Hope Will Not Die. #FreeElRufai #ElRufaiLive #TheMovementIsRising @Hassan_Rilwan @_Bils @SafeeyanM @mareeyama @ishakaa @Aashfinn2 @Aashfinn @B_ELRUFAI @dadeen @AM_Saleeeem @DokunOjomo @underworld_09 @MusaUngogo_ @ADCVanguard_ @ObidientsGM @KADRA_kdsg @Abdool85 @muktarbaloni @ADCNig @BolajiADC @Mod33333 @JafaruSani01 @Aadamxy @Bashir_GS @KHALYD16 @Pharmacio001 @HAHayatu @BashirElRufai

Okowa with 1.3 trillion case with EFCC and Yahaya Bello with 80 billion case with EFCC got Senate tickets respectively in the APC. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai with $2000, and $3000 dollar case, denied bail because he is “dangerous” 🤣

I opened twitter today to see news saying Ribadu said he confirmed Mallam Nasir El-Rufai tapped his phone, said the things he said are true. If this true then I genuinely think that every Nigerian should be worried at the sheer incompetence and criminality behind the scene that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai exposed. So it is true that the government is illegally listening to our phone calls? It is also true that NSA was the one calling ICPC and give them directives on who witch hunt and who not to? It is also true that we are budgetting 100 billion naira for ransom to bandits every month? I find this really worrisome as a Nigerian 🥹 I thought Mallam was just doing opposition oo
