Ukraine is not Russia, 1655 edition. "This openness of Ukrainians to foreigners and their ways was also noted by Paul of Aleppo, who stated that the Ukrainians “were all friendly and did not treat us as strangers,” while in Russia he felt “as if my heart was padlocked and all my thoughts repressed, for no one is able to feel free and joyous in Muscovy.” Subtelny, O. (2009). Ukraine: A History (Fourth Edition). University of Toronto Press. (p. 155-6) "Paul of Aleppo, the son of the Patriarch of Antioch, travelled with his father through the Cossack lands. His travel notes capture that sense of freedom. Paul was equally fascinated by the exotic Ukrainian and Russian lands, but he describes a culture of prying and denunciation in Moscow that is entirely absent in his description of Cossack Ukraine. Reading his travel notes, one comes to the conclusion that in Moscow one could find power and money, but in Ukraine, one could breathe the air of freedom." Hrytsak, Y. (2023) Ukraine: The Forging of a Nation. PublicAffairs. (p. 106)

@dimitrilascaris Hmm, I wonder why you didn't go to Ukraine when it was invaded by Russia? Is it because you only shill for bloodthirsty, far-right, fascist regimes and not liberal democratic ones?

At an exhibit in Congress about literacy, we’re confronted with a devastating reality: 69–70% of U.S. students aren’t reading at a proficient level. And in places like DC, it climbs to 75%. Our education system is leaving students behind, and teaching kids to read should be the highest priority. Instead, we’re pouring over a trillion dollars into war, bombing kids abroad while our own children struggle to read and write. This is the cost of misplaced priorities. Fund education, not destruction. Books, not bombs.

Every embarrassing defeat Pepe re-packages as a victory - because he can't deal with reality. He predicted in 2013 that "BRICS" would eclipse the "capitalist" world.... we're still waiting Pepe... you crusty Boomer New Left ressentiment-filled relic! How's it going grifter? How's your work for Press TV and RT going? Bootlicker.

Iran's 4 points for a possible end of the war: refining what was already in the public domain. Note this is sharper and more straight to the point than the China-Pakistan 5 points. Announced in Moscow. Not in Beijing. tass.com/world/2110185

Grandmasta Lavrov NEVER loses sight of the Big Picture: "We are in the middle of reshaping of the world order that will hopefully lead to the formation of a stable and fair multipolar world." But... "Right now, this restructuring looks more like disruption."

Zelensky seems to have decided to deploy Sean Penn as a kind of reputation-polishing tool for Yermak, the “black magician” of the Presidential Office, who has been discredited and mired in corruption scandals. Zelensky sent Yermak along with Penn to the front lines in what looks suspiciously like a PR tour. One might think a Hollywood star would do a bit more homework before stepping into such carefully staged scenes. Otherwise, it’s less of a visit and more of a masterclass in walking straight into a reputational minefield.

As we extend our condolences and blessings to the Islamic Republic of Iran, its people, its leadership, and its mujahideen, and to the peoples of the Islamic nation and all free people who support resistance, we affirm that targeting the great leaders of this ummah through Zionist-American assassination and terrorism will not break the determination of the nation. It will not shatter the will of resistance, nor will it offer stability or security to the Zionist enemy and its supporters. Instead, it will deepen the resolve of our peoples to continue on the path of resistance and jihad that Imam Khamenei sealed with his own blood, and strengthen our certainty that the criminals will face their punishment for their ongoing crimes. The blood of leaders and martyrs will remain fuel for victory, and the sacrifices and steadfastness of the nation will hasten the fall of hegemonic and arrogant projects and the defeat of the usurping Zionist entity from the body of the ummah, God willing.

A statement of condolence issued by the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement and its military wing, the Mujahideen Brigades. With the spirit of jihad and resistance, and with full submission to Allah’s decree, the Palestinian Mujahideen Movement and its military wing mourn the great Islamic fighter and one of the symbols of this ummah, His Eminence Imam Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, who was martyred alongside a number of his brothers in the Iranian leadership on the path of al-Quds, in the holy month of Ramadan, in a cowardly Zionist-American bombing that targeted the Islamic Republic of Iran. His life was a long journey of giving, sacrifice, jihad, and confrontation with global arrogance, during which he led a renaissance and resistance project that restored the central issues of the nation, foremost among them Palestine.

An open and constructive dialogue between different providers will be key for Europe to strengthen its eco-system and shape its path toward digital sovereignty as we approach next year's Cloud and AI Development Act. I welcomed Katinka Clausdatter Worsøe, from the Danish Council Presidency, Werner Stengg, Cabinet Member for cloud policy to EVP Henna Virkkunen, Andrea Renda, Director of Research at CEPS, and Antonio Freitas, Head of Sovereign Cloud and Public Sector Strategy EMEA at Oracle, to discuss 'Europe's Digital Crossroads' at a workshop on cloud, AI and strategic autonomy. Co-hosted with the European Committee for Interoperable Systems (ECIS), we heard from policymakers and a range of stakeholders, including IBM (Anne Leslie), OVHcloud (Blandine Eggrickx) and the CSC-IT Center for Science Ltd (Irina Kupiainen), on how Europe can chart a sovereign, competitive and resilient digital future for its public and critical sectors, including the roles for interoperability and open-source.

@PereginusD @slantchev Ukraine already won the war in 2022, when Putin's stated war aims (regime change, de-militarization, "neutrality") were defeated with Russia's retreat from Kyiv.

No, it does not. China is the one party with a strong interest in this war being a quagmire. The war distracts the West from China’s ambitions, fractures it, and drives Russia further into dependency while allowing China to profit handsomely from the discounts on energy due to the sanctions. It also causes the West to come, hat in hand, to beg it to restrain Russia. What’s the downside for Beijing?

The resolution contained no suggestion of how to end the war as Ukrainian loss of lives and territory continues unabated. The signalling is all yours. Every war has men like you who clap the troops on the back and sent them off to die, maintain a safe distance from the front and step over the invalided if they return.
