@ona_nky It’s called authoritative parenting 😭 not strict, just consistent, present, and clear with boundaries. Kids cooperate when they feel respected.
The kids who are raised with fear learn how to avoid punishment. Kids who are raised with respect learn self-discipline.
Some parents don't need to shout, threaten, or control every move because they are present, consistent, and set clear boundaries. Their children behave not because they are terrified, but because they understand accountability and mutual respect.
One of the best things you can do for yourself in adulthood, is to learn how to leave things alone.
Just leave it alone. Situations, people, whatever it is, leave it alone.
My aunt’s husband got scammed and lost R10k a few days before Christmas. They were devastated.
On Christmas Day the family gathered at their house and the fraud conversation came up again. While he was explaining the case, his mother suddenly looked at my aunt and said:
“Makoti awukayithathi? Besithi if uyithethe yibuyise.”
We all went quiet.
Imagine losing money, never recovering it, then your own family publicly accusing your wife with zero proof… on Christmas Day.
