@karhermy @cbccolleenjones Perhaps it was the following year? They wouldn’t have played the provincials in 1998 because they were Team Canada at Scotties. At any rate, to Colleen’s point, the crappy thing is that they now scheduled the Scotties to conflict so that one team can’t compete in both.

@AllieFarrell @cbccolleenjones Ok, I have pictures of the SK southern playdowns they curled in, so I guess they won the provincials then.

Also, after the Olympics-@team Gushue is off to the Brier. That’s a change-used to be the Olympic team couldn’t compete in both. They’ll need to adjust the women’s Scotties schedule in 4 years to allow the women this same opportunity. #cbccurl

@karhermy @cbccolleenjones Actually Schmirler won the Scotties in 1997 so went straight to the 1998 Scotties in Regina as Team Canada. My team played them in the opening draw. 😬 There was a big to-do as part of the opening ceremonies to recognize their performance in Nagano two weeks earlier.

@cbccolleenjones Schmirler played in provincials playdowns after Nagano. I beleive they didn’t make it out of southerns. It was played in my hometown and my dad was their driver.

@GameofStonesPod 4) My home curling club, Thistle St Andrews, was so pumped about me winning the Hot Shots that they gave me my own parking spot at the front door of the club, complete with a massive sign.

@GameofStonesPod 3) I worked with a lovely person at Ford to arrange to get my prize - a Mercury Mystique. That person’s name was Maeve, which is my daughter’s name. 🥰

As we get set for the 1v2 game, there will be a lot of talk of this being the biggest moment for NB at the Scotties since Heidi Hanlon But that narrative sadly overlooks the triumph that was @AllieFarrell winning the 1998 Hot Shots #STOH2022
