Andaman Nicobar Chess Mahasangram 2.0,the largest chess tournament in the islands,concluded on 26 April at Netaji Stadium.Organised by the Directorate of Edn. & Sports in collaboration with ANCA,it featured 800 participants,reflecting excellence,discipline & true sportsmanship.

15th April, 2026 will be marked as a red letter day in the history of Indian Chess. Today in Cyprus, Grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu became the Champion of FIDE Women's Candidates 2026 scoring 8.5/14 points! Vaishali will challenge the reigning Women's World Champion Ju Wenjun in the upcoming FIDE Women's World Championship match. Going into the final round, Vaishali had a score of 7.5/14 points - same as Bibisara Assaubayeva. Divya Deshmukh drew against Bibisara in a wild game, and Vaishali scored a dominating win over Kateryna Lagno - with this win, she became the Champion! Vaishali played some incredible Chess throughout the tournament. She scored 5 wins, had 7 draws, and conceded only 2 losses! A huge congratulations to Vaishali, her family, and her team for this incredible result. 15 years ago, Koneru Humpy played against Hou Yifan in the Women's World Championship match in November 2011 - and now Vaishali will play against Ju Wenjun! The Street Chess event captivates Shaheed Dweep! In an effort to connect chess with the wider community, the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association successfully organized a Street Chess Event at the marketplace of Shaheed Dweep, with the support of the local Gram Panchayat and Revenue Department. The event received an overwhelming response from both locals and visitors, making the marketplace lively and full of energy! The Women’s Day Chess Tournament was successfully conducted by the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association on 8 March 2026 at the ANCA Chess Centre, Dairy Farm, Sri Vijaya Puram, celebrating the spirit of #InternationalWomensDay. 🏆 Winners: 🥇 Nandini 🥈 G Manisha 🥉 G Sudha Trophies were awarded to the top 3 players and medals to all participants for their enthusiastic participation. Chess Utsav was successfully organised at GSS Junglighat, Sri Vijaya Puram by Master Minds Chess Club with participation of ~120 students. Shri Vikram Singh, Director of Education, highlighted chess’s role in critical thinking, concentration & holistic development.

Pawn to Queen Chess Club was formally established on 02.02.26 at GMSSS, SVP with active participation of students & teachers. The club promotes chess through structured trg, regular practice sessions & inter-school tournaments. It was inaugurated by Principal Smt. Sangeeta Chand.

Proud moments for the A & N Islands as J S Virat and S Bhavishya shine at the 14th National Schools Chess Championship 2025♟️ J S Virat (U-13) went unbeaten, scoring 6.5/9 to finish 8th, while S Bhavishya (U-17 Girls) scored 5.5/9 to secure 9th—both winning medals & cash prizes. Six other players from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands also impressed across age groups, gaining valuable national exposure. The Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA), in collaboration with Carmel Alumni, today launched the Chess-in-School Programme for students of Class I and II of Carmel Senior Secondary School, Port Blair. A total of around 150 students have enrolled for the programme, reflecting the overwhelming interest from young learners and parents alike.
