🚨John Obi Mikel reacts to Pep Guardiola leaving Manchester City:
🗣️ “I’ve just seen the news, and honestly, this feels like one of those moments where you realise a football era is actually ending. Pep leaving Manchester City is massive for the Premier League.
What he’s done over the last decade is unbelievable. We’re not just talking about winning titles, we’re talking about total control of English football for years. Every season you knew City would be there, and most of the time, you knew they’d go all the way.
As someone who played at the highest level and now watches it closely, I always say this: when you face Pep Guardiola’s teams, you’re not just facing eleven players, you’re facing a system that has been perfected over time. It’s like solving a puzzle that keeps changing shape.
One thing I’ve always admired about him is adaptation. People try to label him; possession coach, tiki-taka, whatever, but he has evolved constantly. Different strikers, different midfield roles, even different defensive setups. That’s why he lasted so long at the top.
And I’ve said it before on my podcast; there’s a psychological side to Pep as well. He knows how to manage pressure in title races. Sometimes he’ll talk like City are underdogs, sometimes he shifts attention away from his players, and somehow it works. It keeps everyone else uncomfortable.
But beyond tactics and mind games, what stands out is the standard he set. You couldn’t afford to drop your level even slightly if you were chasing him. Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea... everyone had to raise their game just to stay in the race.
Now he’s leaving, and I think the Premier League loses its biggest benchmark. The league becomes more open, yes, but also less predictable in terms of dominance. That’s what Pep brought; inevitability.
For me, he’s still the best manager of this generation. And whether people like it or not, his fingerprints will stay on English football for a long time...”

United took 7 penalties… missed only 1.
Guess who missed the only one? Cristiano Ronaldo.
Some players shine under pressure, others disappear.

Jamie Carragher on the global reaction to Arsenal winning the Premier League
🗣️ “I finally understood why nobody wanted Arsenal to win the league”
🗣️ The scale of the celebrations across the world has been unlike anything I’ve seen in football 🌍
🗣️ “The fans are incredibly loyal and insanely passionate”
🗣️ “Show me another team that won a trophy and had celebrations like Arsenal did—streets packed everywhere, social media exploding worldwide.” 🤯
🗣️ “The world was always worried about this happening” 🔥
*Added context*: Carragher said the scenes reminded him why Arsenal’s 22-year wait resonated globally. He noted that even neutrals who’d mocked the “banter era” were posting clips of celebrations from Lagos to London. The sheer emotion showed how deeply connected Arsenal fans are.
