In this @EconomicTimes video, Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch cornered UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over City Minister Tulip Siddiq. Siddiq, niece of ousted Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also served as an anti-corruption minister. She was being investigated for using properties given by allies of Sheikh Hasina’s regime. Badenoch also cornered Starmer on the economy, to which he said the Conservatives plunged British economy down a £22 billion blackhole.

Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the CCTV control room from where areas of Gulshan, Banani and Badda link roads are monitored. The investigation team I was with found all but the footages of police firings/actions on students, their gatherings in July-August uprising.

It happened at long last. An interesting one that’s politically significant in the present context of the country. Will there be any reactions from the deposed Bangladeshi PM Hasina or her son? I guess NO thedailystar.net/news/banglades…

Bangladesh Army Chief’s interview carries many significant messages, ranging from the consequences of the forces’ interference in politics, ongoing political reforms in the country, its transition to democracy, and relationship with India and China in post-Hasina era.

With the #media in #bangladesh freeing from the clutches of its longest-surviving #autocrat, we expected the return of real #journalism to hold the power to account & help create a society more freer, fairer and equitable. Self-censorship becomes a big barrier for our media.

The largest democracy “India” is in the top of spreading false information and Bangladesh is the worst victim of that.

In 2021 and 2022, I spent hours reading hundreds of newspapers and magazines as part of my research on extremism and counterterrorism campaigns. I found many stunning political cartoons, many of which featured Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia, and their vile politics.

This book is possibly the most accurate accounts of journalist S. M. Ali of what was happening in an independent Bangladesh as it strived for a slow, steady and somewhat confused road towards stability and progress. 53 years down the line, we’re still on the same road!!

@sohinichat My friend Sohini Chattopadhyay and I exchanged our books that represent the stories of Indian and Bangladeshi women at an event in Singapore this week. Thank you for sharing the photo. I wish I could share a few more copies of my book with others.
