One of my new 7th grade students in Waukegan asked for a book that would freak her out so I handed her The Tattooed Heart by @MichaelGrantBks couple pages in and she said, “yeah this is messed up! I love it!”

My mission on the first day of school is to create culture. Rather than giving students a list of things they can't do, my goal is to excite them about the possibilities of that year They won't get excited about what they cannot do; its human nature to oppose rules & regulations
