Burkina Faso detains Nigerian military personnel after unauthorized aircraft landing Burkina Faso has confirmed the detention of 11 Nigerian military officers and the seizure of a Nigerian Air Force C-130 plane that entered its airspace without authorization and made an emergency landing in Bobo Dioulasso. The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) comprising Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, stated the aircraft was flying without clearance when it experienced an in-flight emergency on December 8, 2025. All 11 people onboard, including two crew members and nine military passengers, were taken into custody. The AES condemned the incident as a violation of its airspace and has placed its armed forces on high alert. The bloc also warned that its air defense systems are authorized to neutralize any aircraft breaching its airspace, describing the landing as an unfriendly act that contravenes international aviation laws.
