Sadly could not attend #CHI2020, but I enjoyed browsing through the program. I created a reading list of papers on human-AI interaction (broadly). Ofc I must have missed some great papers on the topic. Let me know :) #AI #HCI docs.google.com/document/d/1CC…

I've hit a minor milestone in my academic career: 100 citations (according to GoogleScholar). My first article (rejected 3 times) is responsible for almost half (46). I share this because I almost gave up a career in academia (before it started) due to the rejections. Persevere.

Google wrote, “this result [was] unacceptable. The connection with this outcome and racism is important to recognize, and we are deeply sorry for any harm this may have caused.” Great follow up by @nicolaskb @algorithmwatch on CV thermometer/gun mixup. algorithmwatch.org/en/story/googl…

Before the media blitz & retweet party get out of control, this idea exists, has been published, has a name, and a clearer justification. It is called ***Counterfactually-Augmented Data*** and here's the published paper (spotlight at #ICLR2020). arxiv.org/abs/1909.12434

The digital world is even more important than it was in January. Ensuring it works for everyone has never been more critical. ACM FAccT (formerly FAT*) 2020 videos now online: keynotes, tutorials, papers. Hopefully the ideas in it can be of modest help. youtube.com/channel/UCs16j…

As someone worked for both industry & academia, I think: Academia: X salary, Y workload, Z freedom Industry: >2X salary, <0.8Y workload, <0.4Z freedom Joy of Job = w1 salary - w2 workload + w3 freedom Based on your weights for each factor, you decide which you'll enjoy more!

I analyzed compensation & level details of 19k tech workers to find answers to: 1. How long does it take for SWEs to reach a certain level? 2. Compensations across jobs/levels? 3. Do women get paid less than men in tech? 4. Is there a deadline for SWEs? huyenchip.com/2020/01/18/tec…
